From Play Dough To Icing

Added: (Thu Nov 10 2011)

Pressbox (Press Release) - Inside everyone that does a routine job is the occasional yearning to break out and work for your-self in a creative & fulfilling job. Maureen Mayes toiled ceaselessly at the chalk face for many years with exactly that thought, but was happy bringing her creative and nurturing talents to the primary school world. In fact, she enjoyed it so much she worked in three of them and is constantly reminded of that when she sees previous pupils walking in Whitley Bay.

Family events triggered a career change earlier in 2011 and she retired from the classroom, only to pick up the creative threads of the work and turn her hobby into her business. Starting the business has been a leap of faith and an interesting journey so far. As a new food business, inviting environmental health to see the kitchen and ask their advice was a good move, as it provided a few good pointers to success and confirmed that the plans were workable.

All cakes are made with fresh ingredients & using traditional recipes, some handed down through the family & including a number of gluten free versions. Cakes have been supplied for birthdays, weddings and christenings and all types of occasions and have been in a wide variety of shapes and themes from novelty ones like star-ships and dart boards to simple, classic cakes , cupcakes and cake pops.

On Saturday 19th November the business is holding a launch party with the chance to win a traditional Christmas cake & buy some mini Christmas cakes as gifts for family & friends.
