Freebies: Propaganda to Charge You Sooner or Later

Added: (Sat Nov 15 2008)

Public records are files of people or anything which are being kept for public viewing or retrieval. While they are usually made available freely by the government, its database maintenance is not. Making it accessible to the public is also not cost-free. The funds must be coming from certain budget allocations of the government. And this budget usually comes from the taxes we pay. So are public records really free? No, I don’t think so.

Public records include information and all other details of a certain individual or thing. Usually, there are only certain records which people are really interested in for various different reasons which may range from as serious as tracing and tracking criminal records, checking and verification of background information to property and business purposes and so on and so forth. Because of the demand for it, the equaling supply of information from public records is also enormous. It is not something to be amazed at when shop sites started mushrooming over the World Wide Web.

There are numerous sources of public records. Some are free. Some still require a certain administrative fee which is usually minimal. Others are just gimmicks, just propagandas. It is a fact that those coming from branches or agencies of the government are cost-free. There are also sites on the net which offer services on providing records but conditions on the use of records are not explicitly clear. They may be advertised as free, but when you try to access the records, they require you to pay a certain amount. What they usually mean by free is “free links”. However, you still have to pay when you would want to have a report or download the record. Obviously, this is just one way to lure many people into their sites as when hits on them are made, there is a corresponding fee.

The free public records coming from the government are not free at all, in another sense of it. It also costs you time, effort and patience. The time and effort you spend to retrieve them, if converted into money, may be worth something already. Freebies are just some sort of propaganda so that you are being lured into services which will in fact charge you sooner or later in the process.

If you want to get results which are worthwhile, chances are you really had to pay for it. Find a service provider which is already guaranteed. If they charge you, then, you may expect that it must be worth the records you are asking for. It is also a suggestion that you view and check out reviews of site on the internet before delving into any transaction with them.
