Beat the postal strike

Added: (Sat Oct 24 2009)

The Communication Workers Union (CWU) has said two 24-hour nationwide postal strikes will start on Thursday 22 October. The union said it had no choice but to announce a strike after the Royal Mail rejected its latest set of proposals. On the first day, mail centre staff and drivers will strike. The next day it will be delivery and collection staff. Royal Mail condemned the strikes as "an appalling and unjustified attack on customers".

"Customers large and small have been hoping the CWU would lift the strike threats and focus on providing the service they need and want," said Royal Mail managing director Mark Higson. "Instead the union has given them a slap in the face." Business Secretary Lord Mandelson told the BBC the union's decision to strike "amounts to a death wish".

Whilst postal services are suffering, Parcel2Ship, the parcel delivery experts known for their great rates on worldwide and international courier delivery, are thriving as more and more people look for a more reliable delivery service.

Howard Hughes, chief executive of Parcel2Ship who specialise in courier services and cheap parcel delivery said that despite Royal Mail's assurances that the vast majority of postal services operate through strike action as normal, more and more individuals and businesses are turning to courier services such as Parcel2Ship in order to ensure their parcels and deliveries aren’t disrupted by this ongoing strike action.

Mr Hughes added, "People are increasingly fed up with their deliveries being affected by strike action from postal staff. Increasingly, they are looking to courier services such as ours as they appreciate that they are getting an effective, reliable service from a courier at an affordable price. Many customers have turned to us to undertake their deliveries for them and have never gone back to Royal Mail as they are so pleased with our reliability and efficiency. As a UK registered parcel delivery and courier service Parcel2ship is able to provide a practical range of solutions to both members of the public and those in business who require a door to door parcel delivery service from addresses in the UK to most destinations in the world. Parcel2ship uses only the best international parcel courier firms including DHL, Parcelforce, and Home Delivery Network.

The Royal Mail has long been dogged by industrial relations problems and the organisation was recently hit by a series of strikes that resulted in the biggest disruption to deliveries in over two years. Whilst postal services are suffering, Parcel2Ship, the parcel delivery experts known for their great rates on Parcelforce Worldwide and international courier services, are thriving as more and more people look for a more reliable delivery service.

Relations between Royal Mail and the CWU remain frosty with both sides accusing the other of negative tactics. The CWU members are upset about cuts in jobs and services whereas the Royal Mail argues that the union has reneged on agreements to modernize the postal service. Two 24hr strikes are planned With no agreement in sight the dispute looks likely to continue for the foreseeable future.
