BEAT THE BAN, BE HANDSFREE!

“Beat the ban, be handsfree”; That’s the word from Hertfordshire firm Blucom who are advising businesses and individuals on how to keep within the law whilst driving and speaking on a mobile phone.

Drivers who use mobile phones at the wheel are about to face hefty fines and points on their licence. Kashif Mumtaz, Blucom’s managing director says “Individuals using their mobile whilst driving are a risk to road safety and this legislation is aimed at cracking down on those who impose a safety threat. Blucom is here to help and guide people with using the latest technology in improving road safety - and at affordable prices.”

Road Safety Minister David Jamieson announced that driving while using a hand-held mobile phone will be made a specific offence.

The new offence is planned to take effect from 1st December 2003. Initially offenders will be subject to a £30 fine, which can be increased to a maximum fine of £1000 if the matter goes to court. The Government is planning to legislate to make it an endorsable offence, so that drivers will get 3 points on their licence each time they are caught holding a mobile phone.
