Pressbox (Press Release) - Artist Lynda Cookson “Riding High”
Lynda Cookson, well known artist and artist-profile writer in the West of Ireland, is celebrating the recent purchase of two large horse oil paintings by Galway’s Radisson Blu Hotel. Her “Warriors” painting hangs in the entrance to the Atrium bar and “Beach Boy” hangs in the vestibule of the hotel. Stephen Hanley, General Manager of the Radisson Blu, says of the purchases: “Lynda’s paintings bring such vibrancy and warmth to our hotel. With the upcoming Galway Races nearing, it’s lovely to have such appropriate artwork, which adds to our overall atmosphere and warm welcome. We receive many positive comments about Lynda’s artwork and we appreciate being able to own and exhibit paintings from a local artist.”
Cookson’s celebration takes the form of “Riding High”, an exhibition of her work, in the D’Arcy Suite of the Radisson Blu Hotel for the week 12 July to 18 July inclusive. The Opening Night is scheduled for 7.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. on Tuesday 13 July 2010 and is open to the public. Music is by Kevin Coyne and Peter Carey. Guests are invited to wear an arty hat, scarf or bow tie to join in the fun of an “arty party” and booking is essential for catering purposes.

“Despite the recent downturn in the economy, there is still a demand for paintings and art at certain levels to suit the pocket. I wanted to call my exhibition “Riding High” as there are definitely people out there who have managed to do well, despite adverse conditions, and that’s how I feel it’s been for me. It’s both a thank you and a celebration. The title “Riding High” suits horse paintings too!” declares Cookson.

On 19 July “Riding High” moves to the Moycullen Shopping Centre for two weeks until 1 August, with more than thirty guest artists joining Cookson, and more than two hundred paintings on show. Charlotte Kelly, Kieran Tobin, Fran McCann, Geraldine Folan, Elaine Conneelly, Yvonne King, Doreen Drennan, Lol Hardiman and Patricia Kavanagh are just some of the well-known artists whose work will be exhibited alongside Cookson’s.

Demonstrations and workshops by Fran McCann, Ger Folan and Lynda Cookson have been arranged. Early booking for these events is essential to ensure a place as seating is limited. Visit www.lyndacookson.com for details.
