VISIT TO HM WAKEFIELD PRISON - TO MEET INFAMOUS PRISONER ... Charles Bronson

Pressbox (Press Release) - Apex Publishing’s publishing manager Chris Cowlin visits infamous category ‘A’ prisoner Charles Bronson.

The meeting took place at Wakefield prison on Saturday, 22nd. September 2007.

Cowlin had a very comprehensive chat with Bronson about his latest book ‘Loonyology’ that will be released in June 2008. We can also reveal that this book will be Bronson’s final written book (he has an artbook planned for later next year). The book will include exclusive, unseen photographs including Bronson’s wedding to Saira Rehman in 2001 as well as a detailed account of what prison life is like and his thoughts on being a prisoner for over 30 years. The book will also include words from many supporters and many pieces of Bronson’s award-winning artwork.

Bronson has been involved in the writing of ten other books which have been co-written or written on his behalf. This latest book is 100% Bronson and not to be missed, as this is raw - Bronson at his best.

During Cowlin’s meeting with Bronson at Wakefield they spoke about Bronson’s life’s events, good and bad. Bronson said: “I hold my hands up, I have been a very naughty boy in the past, but I’ve had enough of all of that now, I want to come home.”

Bronson told Cowlin his plans for when he eventually gets released and his dreams of having a wife and a few children, living in the countryside. Bronson also showed how he can perform ninety press-ups in just thirty seconds. He trains most days in his cell and has just half-an-hour in the gym per day and an hour for recreation, running.

Cowlin said “What an experience it was to meet such a man, he was entertaining and had a lot to say. He has so many stories to tell and is desperate to be free. I counted 16 doors after the security process (photographs, fingerprints, searches, etc, etc). For someone, like myself who has never visited a prison, it was very daunting although the prison officers seemed to really like Charlie and appeared to respect him unlike other prisoners in Wakefield, full of murderers and sex-offenders. We had a good chat about ‘Loonyology’ and the plans for the release of the book next June (which should be around the the same time as the showing of his film). Overall I found Charlie entertaining and charming.”



‘LOONYOLOGY’ BY CHARLES BRONSON ...


Loonyology is unlike any book ever done on me, it’s a totally one off! There is no other like it – or will be again! My other books were all co-written so it wasn’t 100% me, I’m not saying my books were not me … I’m proud of them all.

Nobody has co-written this one – this one is me! You get what you see … me. You can NEVER know or UNDERSTAND how I’ve had to achieve it.

I’ve done the impossible from inside a concrete coffin, from max secure conditions. It’s everything that’s me – my art, my soul, my dreams, my poetry, my thoughts and my frustration. It’s prison life like you will never see again, it’s asylum life like you wouldn’t believe.

I’ve finally been able to express myself in how I chose to do it. It’s raw and full of characters and untold legends.

If your of a weak disposition then don’t read it because I write how I speak – you get it from the man whose lived it. Most men would have given up and died a long time ago.

I’m still living in a box – I’ll probably die in it.

It’s no secret that they hate my books so it’s a miracle I ever achieved it.

Loonylogy is even my word I invented! It’s been my life - a dream, turned into a nightmare! But I’m proud of the creation as I’ve turned all the hopelessness into something positive.

Chris Cowlin (Apex Publishing’s Publishing Manager) recently visited me; he couldn’t believe how positive I am! He and all at Apex have belief and faith in me otherwise why would they take it on?

Seeing is believing in this world, anyone can write a book of fantasy but who can do a book on three-and-a-half decades of living in hell…

I never set out to be who I am! Only a madman would do that. I came into jail a villain, a wanted criminal and I’ve become a myth. The media has crucified me; the prison head quarters have assassinated my character. I’ve even lost my true identity.

But here I am standing tall! I can still push more press-ups than any man alive! That’s me, so who are you? My art hangs up all over the world. Why shouldn’t I be proud.

I’ve helped raise untold thousands for kids charities, that’s the Bronson – the system and media don’t want you to know about.

It blows away the myth … and the label of Britain’s most dangerous man. So that’s why Loonyology has come alive. It was waiting to come out!

The free Bronson campaign and supporters will never stop till I’m freed. But Loonylogy will always be here! It’s the penal and justice system that’s mad! Me! I just got caught up in the machine – that’s my excuse!
