Pressbox (Press Release) - THURSDAY………………DONCASTER PREVIEW…………..

2.35 – The step back down to 10 furlongs allied to the softer ground last time out at Newmarket certainly suited Spanish Duke and he readily defied a mark of 88 under Eddie Ahern.

He is entitled to be in the mix here, but the combination of this better opposition and a 9lbs penalty maybe just enough to stop the three-year-old.

For me, Sirvino is the interesting runner here. He has had little racing since winning the John Smith’s Magnet Cup in 09, but has shown in two runs this season that he retains the majority of his ability.

Last time out the five-year-old made stealthy late headway behind Sweet Lightning at York with the promise of more to come and kindly dropped 2lbs by the handicapper he is sure to be well suited by the long run home and the bonus is that arrives here a fresher horse than most.

He has a 7lbs turnaround with winner Sweet Lightning on that run and a 7lbs turnaround with runner-up Royal Destination for being beaten around six and a half lengths.

He could prove to be the main danger to RASHAAD the most intriguing runner in the field. He made his debut on softish ground and seemed to relish getting his toe in.

Subsequently stepped up to 11 and 12 furlongs on fast ground he raced too keenly for his own good in the King George V Stakes at Ascot and did well to finish as close to the winner, Dandino, as he did. This free going sort could be much better suited by this set up and could offer the value bet here especially if the ground eases considerably.

Dangers – Sirvino and Spanish Duke

3.10 – Wootton Bassett won the big sales race at the York Ebor meeting and connections are after another big pot here albeit in what looks a much stronger race.

A fine big sort, Richard Fahey’s mount had to work harder than at first looked likely at York to dispose of Galtymore Lad (re-opposes here) by a length and a half (going away), but the gap to the third home was substantial and there is little doubt that this fine stamp of an animal will be even better suited by an extra furlong.

But a price of about 6/4 is punitive and restrictive and it may be better to look for an each-way alternative in the form of either The Michal Jarvis trained FORJATT or Washington Singer Stakes runner-up SLIM SHADEY both of whom have significantly better draws than the market leader.

Dangers – Wootton Bassett and Galtymore Lad

3.45 – ROSES FOR THE LADY promises to be well suited by this stamina test and the likely forecast give in the ground would be a huge bonus as well.

A smart sort as a three-year-old, the Irish raider ran Sariska to three lengths in the Irish Oaks, Midday back in third, and has continued on the upward curve this season with arguably her best run coming at the Curragh when she landed the Vintage Crop Stakes readily.

Her style of racing and easier ground should see her possibly improve on that and the extra distance is also a bonus on this galloping track.

There are several rivals that could possibly improve for this test as well most notably Warling and Meeznah both of whom should stay the trip.

The former is the most interesting as she finished in eye catching fashion at Goodwood in a Listed handicap last time out and will relish this test. The fact that she is apparently not as ground dependant as Meeznah is also a further plus.

Dangers – Warling and Meeznah

5.25 – A really interesting sprint handicap to end of the day on and if there is any description of ‘soft’ in the ground then I fancy a huge run from ROKER PARK.

This smart handicapper is now down to a mark of 85 and served notice that his turn was close at hand when a running on second to Great Charm at Chester.

A winner off 86 twice last year, he could be very well housed in stall 17 here and has plenty of pace to drag him through the race close by.

With 21 speedsters in the field there are several dangers the best of which could very well be the enigmatic Sunrise Safari and the front running Valery Borzov (located next door to the selection.

Had the race been at York then the latter would have been the tip. This is arguably his easiest task for some time and he is a big player should he also get his favoured cut in the ground and able to grab that stands’ side rail.
