Pressbox (Press Release) -
Australian author, Henry Bateman, has published the book The Streets of Manila in the USA without leaving the comfort of his own home.
The Streets of Manila is a collection of colour photographs and essays from the Philippine capital depicting life and living in this Asian city. A regular visitor and sometimes resident, Bateman, records his impressions of life there in words and on film. In the streets, the malls and the markets he captures the day to day life that swirls around him. From riding jeepneys and tricycles to shopping for bargains in the markets, Batemans keen eye picks up the details of the Filipino at work and at play.
A long time resident of Western Australia, Bateman created The Streets of Manila in the comfort of is own home using material he gathered between August 2005 and February 2006. Then utilizing the power of the internet, he electronically transferred the manuscript half way round the world to a printer in the USA. The printer, Lulu Enterprises, prints the book on demand from orders received online. To date copies have been dispatched by Lulu to Australia, England and the Philippines.
After an exhaustive search of Google, Lulu came up with the best production, distribution and marketing model for The Streets of Manila, Bateman said. That they are on the other side of the world is very little cause for concern, with the net they are only an email away, he added.
The Streets of Manila is currently available online at Amazon.com, Lulu.com and the English online book retailer The Pod Store.com. The reach of the internet is amazing, who would have thought, 10 years ago, an Aussie would be selling a book about Filipinos out of the States, Bateman said.
