Sky offers free Broadband – Is it too good to be true?

Pressbox (Press Release) -
An overview by The Broadband Resource UK into the Pros and Cons.
Why it could be a fantastic deal:
- If you are already a SKY customer and know that you will be paying for your Sky subscription for the next 12 months, you could get 2meg broadband included free, or a higher speed broadband service at a very reasonable price
- A free wireless router
- Free 12 months virus protection software
Why it might not be a fantastic deal:
- You are not a Sky subscriber, and have no intention of subscribing
- Could Sky handle oversubscription of the service effectively?
- How quickly would you get your broadband service after you register? Remember how long TalkTalk customers are having to wait
- No insight into the quality of the customer service. How quickly will they deal with and resolve issues?
- A setup fee applies if you take out the Base (£40) or Mid (£20) package
- You may not be in a Sky broadband enabled area, in which case you can only get a standard package, costing £17.99 a month. They only cover 28% of UK households at the time of writing
No doubt this offer looks very tantalising. Just about eclipsing the TalkTalk offer. However, this is only IF you are a Sky TV subscriber and plan to have it for the next 12 months since there is a 12 month minimum contract. It remains to be seen what the impact is on the general consumer broadband market and the reactions of rival Broadband providers.
