Do the Psalms have any relevance today? In a world full of technology and reality television, with celebrities ruling the airwaves – what place could they possibly have?
This new musical takes a fresh look at these ancient songs and sets them in contemporary situations. It gives people the opportunity to reflect on their meaning and significance in the twenty-first century by taking them on a poignant journey through everyday life.
The performance, in the shape of a radio request programme, allows us to sit back and observe listeners’ lives from the comfort of our seats. Each request highlights a different emotional, practical or moral issue which, in some cases, yield unexpected results. As each personal story unfolds, we find ourselves sharing their experience and getting caught up in their emotions – commiserating the lows and celebrating the highs.
There is something for everyone in this show – real characters, good drama, live music – all the ingredients for an enjoyable but thought-provoking piece. It is said that the whole of human life can be found in the Psalms, and yes, we believe that even in today’s busy, complex world, they are just as relevant as when they were written centuries ago.
So, take 80 minutes out of the frantic Fringe and step into an Odd Sock oasis…you might be surprised at the treasure you might find!
