About the book: ‘She and Me’ is a love story set in Hong Kong and Japan. A man, Stephen Mason, decides to investigate his ‘submissive’ side by writing masochistic fantasies in short story form, and acting them out with female partners. Like many ‘controlled’ investigations, it goes awry when he falls in love with one partner, a married Japanese woman. When she rejects him, Stephen is inconsolable and starts a bizarre second round of investigations. He is finally reunited with his Japanese mistress, but by then it is too late. ‘She and Me’ is introduced and ‘narrated’ by a young female academic who has stumbled on Stephen’s papers. These include ten self-contained short stories, which vividly depict his fantasies.
About the Author: Lewis Lloyd-Jones is a screenwriter, academic and former film director. In the eighties he wrote and directed films for cinema and television under his family name. These included: Telling Tales (1980), Brothers and Sisters (1981) and Girl from the South (1988). His most recent screenplay, The Babymakers – a comedy set in Hong Kong and Holland – was commissioned by the Dutch Film Fund in 2004. He has lived in Berlin, Amsterdam and Hong Kong, as well as in his country of origin, England. He has one grown-up son and is a Chair Professor of Film & Television. He is currently working on a new novel set in 1990’s Holland.
What others say about ‘She and Me’:
