On Thursday, 10th July, 2008 at 7.30pm at St. Michael's Church, Chester Square, London SW1W 9HH (near Victoria Tube station) London Concord Singers with conductor Malcolm Cottle, will be presenting music set for 4-11 voices with themes from various extracts of the Bible. Tickets for the concert are available in advance from Islington Music, 6 Shillingford Street, Islington, Tel 020 7354 3195 (£9; concessions £6), or on the door (£10).
The choir will present Psalms from the Old Testament with music composed by Charles E. Ives and Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina. The book of Exodus is represented with 'Precatus est Moyses' by Palestrina. Old Testament texts also inspired Alberto Ginastera who set music to 'The Lamentations of Jeremiah' and Eric Whitacre who used the words 'When David heard' from the Book of Samuel. The choir will sing two further choral works by Whitacre, 'Lux Aurumque' and 'Hope, faith, life and love'. Randall Thompson's 'Alleluia', John Sheppard's 'Verbum Caro', Robert Parsons's 'Credo quod redemptor meus vivit' and Johannes Brahms' 'Why is the light given to the burdened' will add to the biblical themes. Finally the choir will perform Robert Hugill's Introit for the 18th Sunday of ordinary time: 'Deus in adjutorium'.
Notes for Editors: London Concord Singers are a London-based chamber choir, founded in 1966 by Malcolm Cottle.
