Maze designer Yonatan Frimer has released a maze inspired by the cell phone picture that was taken of a monkey that was trained in kung fu, turning on its trainer. “The idea that the monkey was able to figure out uses for the kung fu that he was not trained to do shows the complexity of these animals” says Frimer, “We don’t fully understand these animals but they clearly don’t prefer to be restricted as they are."
The maze appears very similar to the original picture taken on a cell phone of one of the monkeys performing a jump kick to the head of the owner. The story first appeared December 16th in Ananova, and has gotten international attention including Conan O”Brian’s “The Tonight Show.”
An excerpt from the article reads:
“At one point the monkey trainer grabbed a staff to hit the monkeys, only to find himself facing a stick-brandishing monkey that cracked him over the head.
Lo only managed to get the monkeys under control by tangling them up in the rope that had been used to stop them running off.”
