Billed as the new Seu Jorge and backed by David Bryne’s ‘Luaka Bop’ record label, Márcio Local is one of Brazil’s hottest new talents. Riding the wave of Brazilian Soul, he is about to hit London. After creating a stir in the US with his performance at the GlobalFest in New York City, JungleTrips is bringing him to the capital.
Mixing jumping percussion, choppy funk guitars and robust horn sections with a touch of percolating clarinet, Márcio Local is a musician not to be missed. A proud carioca, he expresses his love for his hometown through his music. His latest album Don Day Don was described as being ‘about lazy Saturday afternoons at the beach, a game of soccer, the drama of sexual seduction and the bustle of the urban scene.’
The smooth baritone and his sound hail from Realango, bustling working-class neighbourhood on the west side of Rio. Márcio Local is highly regarded by some of the biggest critics when it comes to new Brazilian soul, so take note of his name.
His takes on roots samba, soul, funk, reggae, rap and baile funk are as authentic as new and innovative. The support from Luaka Bop is a fantastic accolade this early in his career.
To celebrate the launch of JungleTrips, the night will cut into World Travel Market (the biggest travel and tourism event on the UK calendar) to offer its delegates and contacts of the magazine a musical interlude to remember. So expect to meet an abundance of guests from around the world.
