BA (Hons) Fine Art, Illustration & Photography
This July, The Old Truman Brewery will host the works of exciting emerging talents as part of the internationally renowned Free Range Art & Design Show. ‘Feral’ provides the opportunity to view the innovative and intelligent work produced by Fine Art, Illustration and Photography graduates from the Arts University College at Bournemouth. This eclectic group is united by a curiosity and fresh perspective on the contemporary creative culture that they are to entering into.
AUCB Fine Artists present work which is thought-provoking and visually intriguing, forming questions that challenge audience understanding. They have explored these through a multitude of platforms from painting and sculpture to print, film, photography, and performance, all of which have been refined to aid each individual’s mark on society and culture. Throughout the course they have built upon a responsive attitude and gained the maturity and social awareness to build opportunities.
The broad practice of AUCB illustrators reflects exciting movements within the ‘wild frontier’ of illustration, with the blurring of art and design subject boundaries opening up new multi-modal worlds for these versatile graduates to mould and shape. This year’s cohort has already celebrated a variety of successes, with Emily Hughes winning second place in the prestigious Macmillan Prize and Natasha Durley achieving Best of Year in D&AD Student Awards. Equipped with the ability to engage with the world, comment, add and make us stop and think this driven group of young creatives are set to make waves, continuing to challenge and interrogate preconceptions as they are launched into the creative industry this year.
BA (Hons) Photography at the AUCB puts an emphasis on contemporary contextual and theoretical practice within photography. Facilitated with the means to take work in any direction, the course favours no genres within the medium. This has created a free-thinking group of graduates, encompassing practicing fashion photographers, filmmakers, concrete and camera-less practitioners, and sound and installation artists. What coheres this diverse group is their rigorous approach to their practice and an open-minded attitude to what it means to be a photographer in the modern art world.
The Arts University College at Bournemouth; established in 1885 as a specialist institution, is now a leading University College offering high quality specialist education in art, design, media and performance across the creative industries. We remain passionate about our subjects and continue to encourage curiosity, risk-taking and adventure in exploring and pushing subject knowledge and its boundaries.
