Exhibition in New Gallery in North London, Chris Follows at Arlington Gallery 'Flat' 7th July - 4th August 2006 an exhibition showing work of seven artists all of which responds to the quirky domestic upper space of Arlington Gallery.
The exhibition will run from 7th July to 4th August at the Arlington Gallery, Camden Town, London. For more information on the exhibition see www.novas.org
Chris’s work has a manufactured yet distinctive appearance, public and private boundaries are explored and repetition and restraint are a fundamental part of his practice. Chris’s work can be viewed at the group show exhibition ‘Flat’ in the Arlington Gallery, part of the Novas Group. The Novas group are dedicated to improving the quality of housing and hostels as well as providing community-based services, and developing new and innovative approaches to working with people who experience inequality and discrimination.
The Exhibition includes seven artists; Noa Lider, Garry Martin, Chris Follows, Petra Hudcova, Nawfal Salman Dexter Dymoke and Jeff Sawtell, all of whose work responds to the quirky domestic upper space of the Arlington gallery and creates oppoturnity for change through cultural expression.
Chris has developed a unique style of painting produced through a repetitive application and removal of acrylic paint onto aluminium mesh. Chris is in some way removed from the creative act of painting: he only views the results of his labour once the paint is dry and the painting is turned over. The imagery for his paintings resonate a sense of loss and irreplaceable time. Chris’s installation work includes found, discarded, or forgotten objects, collected, stored, reworked and resurrected into new memories and contexts. His video work relies on the random selection of online video footage: ‘found internet video footage’ is captured from various Internet video sites, stored and used as his key resource and reworked into new video narratives.
Anna Lewis, the curator commenting on the exhibition remarks that ‘these works will both excite and stimulate gallery visitors and see the proffessionalism and energy of those involved as a taste of things to come’.
