Brazilian-Lebanese web serie tests the limits between reality and fiction

Added: (Thu Oct 22 2009)

Pressbox (Press Release) - Nowadays, many of the TV series are
published and widely watched over the internet.
Flying Kebab is one of the few that have gone
the opposite way: it was born on the internet
and then migrated to television.
The web serie was idealized when Matheus
Siqueira, Fernando Borges, and Cléderson
Perez, the creators of the project, had the
opportunity to go to work in Lebanon for one
year. In order to fulfill the need of sharing their
experiences and the beauties of the country,
they decided to make use of the latest
technology and of one of the most ancient
ways of cultural exchange, story telling.
The episodes have been translated into
at least four different languages (Portuguese,
English, Arabic, and Spanish) and have been
watched by more than 100,000 people. So far,
more than 1,300 blogs have posted something
about Flying Kebab on the internet. Every
episode is impatiently waited by Brazilian and
Lebanese fans who want to know what is
happening with Nando (Fernando Borges), a
Brazilian photographer who, after receiving a
mysterious letter in Arabic, decides to go to
Lebanon searching for his inheritance.
Flying Kebab innovates on the approach
used to interact with the viewers, drawing a
very thin line between fiction and reality. An
experiece that seems to be working. Indeed,
most of the characters of the serie use their
real names while acting; therefore, they can
be found in some of the social medias such
as Orkut, Twitter, and Facebook. Moreover, it
is possible to know what is going on with the
protagonist even before the episodes have
been released through Flickr - where he posts
pictures of his trips around Lebanon - Twitter -
where he publishes anecdotes of his daily life -
and through the videologs - small videos about
his experience in Beirut.
Besides being made for the internet, Flying
Kebab is also made through the internet. For it
was through the internet that, after publishing
the first episode, the creators could find a
production house, actors, musicians, and a
scriptwriter. These people, together with many
other who have offered some help, have made
Flying Kebab more complete and professional.
In addition, the serie was also broadcast on
FIZ TV, an Brazilian independent TV channel.
