Pressbox (Press Release) - Rimonabant is an anorectic anti-obesity drug developed by Sanofi-Aventis. It is marketed as Acomplia in the UK and EU. It has not got FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approval for sale in US. When Rimonabant gets approval from it for sale in US it might be marketed as Zimulti. Earlier the manufacturer claimed that with it one can get away from smoking habit but recently they are keeping quite on that claim. Even their website dedicated to Rimonabant (Acomplia) skips that topic.

Rimonabant is a CB1 blocker by nature. It selectively blocks CB1 receptors found in brain and other organs nearby which regulate glucose and lipid metabolism. The drug helps in decreasing the over activity of EC (endocannabinoid) system. EC is responsible is a physiological system which plays an important role in controlling energy balance and body weight.

Nausea, headache, dizziness and depression are some of the common side effects associated with the intake of Rimonabant. However, the side effects are mild and are for short period only. A person should always consult a doctor before going for the drug. A doctor is the right person to decide what will work out for him. Children, breast feeding mothers and pregnant women should consult a doctor before taking the drug. Persons with heart ailments, diabetes, asthma, allergy or blood pressure should tell their doctor prior to the medication of Rimonabant (Acomplia).
