In the wake of 24-hour licensing, how do we reach out to our nation’s youth to warn them of the perils of binge drinking?

For comedy legend Dorian Flenk it’s all to do with finding the perfect format.

“You’ve got to talk to them on their own level,” he explains, “…via a self-indulgent sepia-tinted photo story parable set in Edwardian times, on a website, with its own theme tune and ringtone.”

The “Jekyll & Gingernuts” photo story is the latest content on Flenk’s award-winning cult comedy website Idiotica.co.uk.

A gin drinker, father, and the sole founder of Idiotica, octogenarian soak Flenk feels ready to tackle the role of parable-teller for today’s booze-crazed youth.

“It’s gonna be bigger than Little Britain” he claims. “I’ve never been wrong yet!”

Other content planned for 2006 includes the launch of ‘Misery Loves Timpani’ – the debut album from reluctant father concept band Dutch Cap and the Rhythm Method; and ‘Jump Honiton’ – a website devoted to the philosophy and footage of the extreme urban sport of ‘free running’, from the South West’s finest Honi Monsta Krew.

Notes to editors

1. Dorian Flenk has never been right yet.

2. Forever in the shadow of Peter Cook, the fictional Flenk is failing even to die of alcoholism as effectively as his lifelong rival. The closest he has got to cirrhosis is psoriasis, and nobody so much as cares. See Flenk’s CV for more – attached.

3. Some praise for Idiotica includes:

• “The sniggering younger sibling of Brass Eye” – THE FACE

• “Harsher satire than The Onion” – THE GUARDIAN

• “Refuses to take prisoners…the jokes come thick and fast” – STANDARD

• “Highly entertaining” (named 3rd best site of 2003) – GQ

• “Hilarious! Idiotica does exactly what it says on the tin” - MAXIM
