The UK’s leading Santa trip specialist, Esprit Holidays (www.santaslapland.com) has come up with the top ten things to pack when paying a visit Santa’s Lapland home.
1. Letter to Santa
After all, the main reason for seeing Santa is to make sure he’s got this year’s hot toys on your kids’ list
2. A favourite toy
A visit to snowy Lapland can be a tiring trip for youngsters, so taking something familiar with them is recommended.
3. Puzzles / colouring books
The flight time to Santa’s Lapland home is around 3.5 hours so a few small treats and activities will help to while away the journey
4. A torch
In December the sun doesn’t even get above the horizon so there is only a soft ‘grey’ light known as ‘Kaamos’ between the hours of 10am and 3pm, otherwise, darkness!
5. Thermal undies
Esprit Holidays provide their guests with special clothing for Arctic conditions but packing your own thermals give protection from temperatures as low as –30 degrees!
6. A camera
Photo opportunities include the kids meeting Santa, playing in the snow, or the dancing Northern lights.
7. Swimming costume
Many hotels have swimming pools and swimming gear is also a good item to pack for using the traditional Finnish saunas in all hotels, cabins and apartments.
8. Finnish Phrase Book
Though he’s multi-lingual, he might appreciate a thank-you (“kiitos”) in his native language.
9. Euros
Finnish Lapland is in the Euro-zone so the currency’s easy for Brits and summer holiday left over cash can go towards extra activities like ice-driving or a snowmobile adventure.
10. T-bags
You’ll be offered the traditional Lapp drinks hot berry juice and hot chocolate, but T-holics shouldn’t forget their bags
