Is there anyone you love more than your horse?
So there you are, telling this lovely guy/girl (delete as appropriate) about the finer points of your beloved bonny bay (anglo-Arab, natch under 16 hands, bit of a bad history but coming good now) and you see a glazed look come into their eyes. Then there’s a muttered excuse and a sideways shimmy, and quicker than you can say ‘snaffle’, you’re discussing mud fever and linseed pellets with the potted palm.
What all horse lovers want is someone who truly understands their passion. Get that and it’s a 24/7 affair for life, forsaking all others except the similarly obsessed. Someone who will go out in all weathers to tend the four footed object of desire; who takes it for granted you’ll march with the Countryside Alliance; whose favourite shop is the local agricultural store. Oh, and someone who won’t mind when you explain tenderly that of course you love them but they will always get the blue rosette.
Even if you don’t have your own horse, you want someone who empathises. (They might actually come in first if there isn’t an equine soul mate in your life.) If you dream about hooves pounding into the sunset, read Country Life at your desk and spend as much time as possible outdoors, you need a kindred spirit or part of you is shut down.
