Pressbox (Press Release) - A retired airman has marched straight into the book charts with his remarkable historical novel surrounding a fountain of youth.
Roger Sayers first wrote The Aqua Chronicles almost a decade ago following a dream about the spa city of Bath.
The 77-year-old’s gripping first book, which was rewritten ahead of its recent publication, charts some of the historic city’s most infamous visitors and characters who are linked by magical powers possessed within its bathing baths.
The Aqua Chronicles has already reached number five in Amazon’s historical novels chart.
And readers have been heaping praise on the former engineer and administrator.
Roger said: “I don’t really know where the idea came from for The Aqua Chronicles, but I woke up one morning with the first 30 pages in my head.
“All I had to do was write the next 550 pages - I never realised the magnitude of the task I was undertaking and that I had started along a path of authorship.
“My retirement years have been given a new sense of direction.
“The Aqua Chronicles has been read by as many people as I could persuade to read it – the reaction was always favourable.
“One reader said it should be made into a film. I certainly wouldn’t raise any objections.”
The Aqua Chronicles is a thrilling and intriguing story of magical powers acquired from Bath’s Roman waters.
A modern-day pensioner, a Roman visitor, the son of a Salisbury duke, a character from Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, and a pre-historic scientist all discover that the waters reverse the aging process.
Roger’s thrilling narrative takes readers through some of the most turbulent periods in English history.
The grandfather added: “The Aqua Chronicles is set in the world heritage city of Bath, where I was based for a while some time ago.
“The story begins when Mrs Carole Shore dips her hands in the water at the Roman Baths.
“Almost immediately her biological clock began to run backwards.
“Extensive research was needed to get the facts right, including much reading of Roman and Viking history, and the folklore that surrounds world-wide legends of fountains of youth.”
Roger has been so encouraged by the reception for The Aqua Chronicles that he has already completed a sequel.
