South African Writer Takes Arthurian Parody To The Stars
Naidoo’s episodic fiction was released in print by progressive US publisher,
Fiction Vortex, this week.
Durban, KZN, South Africa, 8 July 2019. Naidoo said it was an honour and a pleasure to have been chosen as one of FV Press’ Wizards in Space Storyverse™ writers over this exciting and evolutionary stage of the Idaho based publisher’s history.
The author said writing episodes that are ‘binge-worthy’ enough to engage readers over the two years taken to create, edit, and publish Season 1 of Quest for the Wholly Pale has been her biggest achievement so far. The first eight episodes of the quirky scifi-fantasy series were published in the StoryShop Readers app, a read on demand IOS and Android app. The printed book ends Season 1 with two exclusive episodes. “I’m beyond the moon with this book,” said Naidoo. “The story’s so much more than I expected it to be when I first signed on.”
The story follows a cursed young wizard, Emrys Lailoken, on his search through various planets and galaxies to find the Wholly Pale in order to break his curse. Naidoo parodies Arthurian Romance, Star Wars tropes, and other pop culture influences in the ensuing comedy. What is the Wholly Pale? Naidoo smiles when asked. I didn’t know at first, thinking it could be a special kind of cheese or a song, perhaps. Then it dawned on me as the story progressed. I hope readers will have a similar journey with it as Emrys and I’ve had.
Leenna writes cross-genre suspense, romance, and dabbles in sci-fi/fantasy. Her short stories have appeared in Mad Scientist Journal, SciPhi Journal, and Cosmic Roots And Eldritch Shores where she also serves as editor’s assistant to the Myths, Legends and Fairy Tales department. When not writing or reading tarot, she often tries her hand at anything vaguely artistic.
