Edinburgh writer defies teachers with tenth book

Added: (Wed Jun 26 2019)

Pressbox (Press Release) - A retired social worker from Edinburgh has disobeyed his old teachers by completing his TENTH anthology of short stories.
Roger Leslie Paige has become a big hit with a growing number of readers since picking up the pen more than a decade ago.
The Wheel of Fortune & Other Stories is Roger’s latest collection to shock, surprise and thoroughly entertain.
The 75-year-old credits French writer Alexander Dumas for providing the inspiration for him to delve deep into his imagination for storylines - after being told off more than six decades ago in the classroom.
Roger, who still lives in Scotland’s capital, said: “My schoolteachers were discouraging of my creativity and writing about what came natural was a no-no.
“Reading the French author Alexander Dumas showed me that it’s okay to use your imagination for writing stories.
“Since retiring from work it is much easier to find the time to write as when I was working it was difficult to fit it in.
“I’ve always enjoyed reading short stories and I also like to write them.”
The Wheel of Fortune & Other Stories includes the tale of how an elderly man hits the headlines after writing his account of meeting Ernest Hemingway.
Roger’s collection also includes the story of a postal worker meeting John Wayne in London, and a writer bumping into James Dean… years after his reported death.
The Wheel of Fortune & Other Stories is a gripping collection of highly original stories.
Readers are taken on skiing trips to the Scottish Borders, snorkelling for treasure in the depths of the Caribbean and transported into the frightening wards of a psychiatric hospital.
Roger, whose previous collections have reached the top ten of Amazon’s short story charts, added: “The stories in The Wheel of Fortune & Other Stories are a mixed bag of old and new, some semi-autobiographical or humourous.
“And all are intended to entertain.
“Ideas for new stories constantly bubble to the surface of my mind and I try to capture them as quickly as I can in words.
“Some can be developed with a bit of work and research and others remain fragments in notebooks.
“I’m constantly amazed that something interesting finally takes shape.”
