An overview of the different crowdfunding platforms for ‘Reward’ based campaigns

Added: (Wed Jun 26 2019)

Pressbox (Press Release) - Crowdfunding is the new way that small businesses and entrepreneurs can raise money for their passion project in the 21st century, but, as appealing as crowdfunding may be, the practice isn’t as simple as it may seem. In fact its a lot of hard work and requires many months or preparation before launching.

Among the many different choices to make along the way, an important one is to decide which platform to use, and this choice will depend on several different factors. Let’s look at the biggest choices out there.

Kickstarter: The biggest platform out there, built to fund creativity and entrepreneurship. It gives access to more backers than any other platform out there, with millions of people searching on the platform every week. On Kickstarter, you either reach your funding goal or you get nothing. According to the website, a video can increase the odds of your success and help your project reach its funding goal. So, a crowdfunding video is really important to your campaign.
Indiegogo: The second most popular crowdfunding platform is slightly different to Kickstarter. Where you have more ‘creative’ projects on kickstarter Indiegogo is the best place to launch ‘tech product’ campaign. Also, Indiegogo do things slightly different. Rather than ‘fixed’ raises, Indiegogo have ‘flexible’ rasies where you can keep the money raised, even if you don’t reach the proposed amount.
GoFundMe: This is a popular choice for projects that need funding in the short-term and don’t have time to wait. It is a popular choice for charities, non-profits and even for individual causes that require help.
Crowdfunder: For projects that matter, this is a platform that focuses in donation and charitable and social causes. You’ll also find some creative projects like on kickstarter.
Patreon: Patreon’s uniqueness comes from its subscription model. In this platform you are more likely of supporting an artist that wants to launch its work than a start-up that is trying to mass produce an innovative product.
Experiment: If you have a thing for science you should give it a try. This platform is specialized in scientific research and as a backer you have the chance to follow the entire research process in a transparent way. Just like in Kickstarter, the all-or-nothing model prevails.

Whichever platform you choose for your campaign, your campaign will require a crowdfunding video. For more information about producing a video for your campaign contact a specialist agency like wow your crowd.
