Aylesbury gran hopes book will boost new Malawi church

Pressbox (Press Release) - Retired nurse Otilia Kang'ombe is hoping to have the same influence as her favourite author with the publication of her debut book.
The 65-year-old grandmother, who lives in Aylesbury, also hopes profits from Mum, Why Bother with Jesus? can help a church building programme in her native Malawi.
Otilia’s own spiritual journey began as a teenager after reading work by the acclaimed and influential writer Merlin Carothers.
She explained: “At the age of 18, I read Prison to Praise by Merlin Carothers.
“His life experience with God made me realize that there was something I was missing out on.
“I admired Merlin's relationship with God so much so that I followed what he said to do.
“Deciding to follow Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour, I have had amazing experiences that I would like to share with all who will take time to read my book.
“I feel I can also influence others like Merlin Carothers did to me.”
After 20 years of working as a nurse in Malawi, Otilia moved to the UK in 2002 to continue her medical career.
It was only following her retirement, two years ago, that she found the time to start piecing together the many notes she had made about her faith.
Mum, Why Bother with Jesus? is a deeply personal yet relatable look at what a relationship with God can achieve.
Otilia’s book also provides warnings as well as hope with her convincing narrative.
She added: “We find ourselves in this world through no choice of our own, yet making choices is inevitable.
“The main choice that guides all other choices is about who we will live our daily lives in obedience to.
“There are only two spiritual masters to choose from - nothing in between.
“These are Jesus Christ - the king of God's kingdom of light - or Satan – the king of the kingdom of darkness.
“Making time to develop a love relationship with Jesus leads to living this life in abundance, and our soul meets up with Jesus when we close our eyes in death.”
Since retiring Otilia splits her time between Buckinghamshire and Malawi’s capital city, Lilongwe.
Sales of Mum, Why Bother with Jesus? in Malawi are already helping to build two new churches, and it is hoped similar success in the UK will further aid the project.
