Reducing service verification issues in the waste industry

Added: (Sun Dec 31 2023)

Pressbox (Press Release) - In the waste industry a big area where tech helps is service verification. Confirmation & recording of non-collections or issues is essential. This data is required for correct customer billing & customer disputes/conflict resolution. With manual verification, even if you are right, customers can still win due to lack of hard facts. Key wins you get with better solutions are reductions in customer disputes & admin staff costs. Lets break service verification into 3 categories:

1. Manual
2. RFID
3. Camera

Manual
This is a simple and cost-effective solution. Due to its nature, it is human-based where a person ticks the task completed or records an issue. Our experience is that this solution is very error prone and will continue to leave your operations exposed in areas of service disputes.

RFID
RFID is an industry standard. It provides a level of automation that moves it above manual verification but it has negatives. While expensive to roll out, once in place you have ongoing maintenance and replacement costs. Faulty or damaged tags require replacement scheduling and onsite visits. And you have to scan and assign new carts to a customer property.

Camera
This is the latest and best verification available to waste haulers. Nothing can beat a picture! Take the example of a customer calling in to say their container was not collected and emptied. In the instance where the collection was not completed due to non-presentation, then a picture will deal with this perfectly. Manual verification is easy to argue against and even RFID verification is open to dispute. But the most definitive evidence that you can present to a customer is a time-stamped picture of your truck outside their location showing what (or not) was available for collection. Plus, one camera on the truck providing all your verification requirements is a lot more cost-effective than having to tag every individual container on your route. Cameras are the future of verification as it is quite easy to implement, delivers accurate addresses and requires zero management to keep it up to date.

There is no one size fits all solution as companies differ greatly from one to the next. Our advice is to contact companies like ours and review your specific set up. Many companies are surprised at how easy and affordable it is to upgrade their current systems. But without question, the more reliable your solutions are, the less problems you will have.
