Once Again EquityMatch empowered Individuals through an Amazing Panel Discussion

Added: (Wed Dec 13 2023)

Pressbox (Press Release) - Employees' mental health difficulties, such as depression and anxiety are on the rise, putting both workers and businesses at risk. While 44% of companies reported an increase in these issues in 2022, that percentage increased to 77% in 2023. Thus, prioritizing mental health in the workplace isn't just good for employees; it's a strategic investment that fuels creativity and productivity! To remind everyone about this, EquityMatch hosted a panel discussion on October 25, 2023, with the theme "Nurturing Mental Health and Well-Being in the Workplace." The discussion provided a time for enlightening ideas, best strategies for practice, and a commitment to create more encouraging and psychologically resilient work environments.

This panel discussion was moderated by Massimiliano (Max) Sulpizi, a remarkable visionary in the entrepreneurial sphere. He is the Founder and General Partner of HSMI-Corporate Consulting and the developer of "EquityMatch." Max leveraged his varied experience as a merchant banker, venture capitalist, and business owner to lead the conversation into uncharted areas.

Jennifer K. Hill, Dr. Johnsey Thomas, and Dr. Mark Goulston served as distinguished panelists during the event. They engaged with the audience and produced a vibrant environment bursting with great concepts and strategies to empower mental health at work.

The discussion initiated with Jennifer speaking on the topic of the major causes of mental health in the workplace. She is a well-known entrepreneur, novelist, and television and radio broadcaster. In addition to working as CEO and Founder of JHill's Staffing and OptiMatch, Jennifer is a well-known business leader, having produced two important books and two white papers. During the session, she stated, “It is a real issue if you consider, how many hours of our life, we have 168 hours in any given week. Many people are working 80 to 90 plus hours which barely leaves time for sleep, eating, and other things.”

She also stated that the early scientific belief that Epigenetics exclusively applied to humans has since been disproven. Recent epigenetics, she claims, demonstrate a key shift: the environment now plays a direct role in gene activation. This discovery frequently leads to accidental adversarial relationships between staff. As a result, she was able to underline how a lack of a mindful work environment and comprehensive Employee Wellness Programs contributes to a wide range of problems.

The panelists also highlighted how the more stressed a person gets, the more cortisol is produced, resulting in an inability to think and listen. The importance of stigma, leadership, and acceptance as variables in these workplace difficulties was also stressed during the discussion. This emphasis demonstrated that each individual is differently designed, demanding personalized strategies, which are now absent in the workplace. This absence produces a variety of mental health and well-being issues.

The session then moved on to Dr. Mark emphasizing tools and strategies for addressing the challenges of mental health in the workplace. He has been a former UCLA psychiatrist professor for over 25 years and also a member of the Marshall Goldsmith 100 Coaches. He was able to point out that, “One of the things that all mental conditions like Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, Neurodiversity, and Schizophrenia cause are to trigger easily. It takes very little to trigger you.”

Thus, he went on to explain the effective use of the 22-Day Trigger Challenge as an approach to overcoming workplace mental health difficulties. As a result, he expressed the transformative technique elegantly in three essential steps: triggered, downshift, and reframe.

Additionally, several approaches, such as paradoxical thinking and meditation, were discussed as useful tools for both preventing and overcoming mental difficulties in the workplace. The panelists were able to demonstrate how paradoxical thinking enables an individual to go from dismissing a circumstance to embracing it positively. According to them, it also allows people to re-create angry and fearful situations with a joyful and humorous tone.

Thereby, Dr. Johnsey was able to emphasize the meditation tactics that can be employed in the workplace. He is a health coach, a motivational speaker, and a psychologist. He has worked for over two years in the field of psychological well-being. During the discussion, he stated, “Whatever we do or whatever we say at the end of the day we find it difficult to sit for a while without thinking anything.” With that being said, he underlined how meditation may be done at the workplace by attempting to focus on the background environment, pleasant noises, and so on.

The session then focused on employer measurements that are effective in the workplace, emphasizing three essential strategies: fostering open communication, developing leadership knowledge, and adhering to virtuous beliefs. The session highlighted the importance of the leadership's grasp of cost and the impact of their leadership style on the entire team. This highlighted the need for positive thinking in executive roles since it often has an impact on the entire team.

The three speakers were able to address the importance of instilling ideal values. As a result, it was highlighted that the principles of top-tier individuals typically encourage the individuals at the bottom level. As a result, the critical need for building and transmitting values that support a healthy and productive work environment was emphasized.

As the final aspect of the discussion, they discussed Collaborative Care to create a better workplace environment for employees. The conversation stressed the need to create a collaborative and cohesive work environment, underlining the critical relationship between mental health and lifestyle choices. Access to therapists, including acupuncture services, and comprehensive mental and emotional support were identified as essential tools for building a collaborative care culture in the workplace.

The panel discussion was a fun and interactive session that allowed individuals to express themselves and ask the three professional speakers questions. As the session came to a close, attendees were prepared with ideas and skills for dealing with mental health issues at work. After acquiring these critical insights, they felt inspired to meet new challenges and chart a course toward a future distinguished by innovation and significant influence.
