Liberate Grace is an independent advocacy group operating throughout Europe, focusing on the story of Grace, a young Irish woman who was sterilized without her consent by doctors within the Irish public health system. While under anaesthesia, Grace underwent an involuntary sterilization procedure performed by the Irish National Health System. Following her report of this violation, she was moved to an institution where her basic rights were severely limited.
Presently, Grace is unable to socialize with her friends or her long-term partner. The primary goal of Liberate Grace is to expose and legally challenge the negligence and physical abuse that Grace endured at the hands of hospital staff within the Irish National Health System (HSE). The group seeks justice for Grace and aims to hold the HSE accountable for their actions.
The Liberate Grace website serves to raise awareness about Grace’s situation and advocate for the protection of her fundamental rights, as mandated by the European Union. It aims to engage civil society and political entities across Europe in this cause. The website’s main objective is to eradicate all forms of discrimination faced by Grace, thereby enabling her to exercise her rights and freedoms as guaranteed by the European Convention on Human Rights, which was incorporated into Irish law through the “European Convention on Human Rights Act 2003”.
Liberate Grace seeks to prevent further physical and psychological abuse by holding accountable any individuals found to have violated the European Convention on Human Rights. This may involve bringing cases before the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg and the Court of Justice of the European Union in Luxembourg for breaches of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union.
Liberate Grace works in collaboration with civil society organizations and local communities across various European countries that are dedicated to social justice, human rights, and democracy.
