Wiltshire gran’s tales of murders and ghosts published

Pressbox (Press Release) - Retirement has provided the key for widow Joan Pritchard finally being able to finish her stories.
A decade or so on, the 75-year-old from Wiltshire has just released her latest gripping collection of eclectic tales.
Joan’s new release, When Two Worlds Collide, takes readers from murders and ghosts to historical cliff-hangers.
And, just like with her previous collections, all are written with assurance, occasional humour, and perfect pacing.
Joan admits it took giving up work to finally being able to concentrate on taking her highly-entertaining stories to a conclusion.
The grandmother explained: “I started writing for pleasure in my 30s, but never managed to finish anything I started.
“That was until I retired, and it was then that I found I was at a loss.
“My husband had just died as well – so I had lots of free time
“All of the fictional stories in my books come straight from my own mind – and while the historical tales are based on people who lived a very long time ago, I sometimes adopt a poetic licence to create what they said and did.”
Sine publishing her first anthology, Joan has been producing a newly published collection of stories almost every year.
And during the pandemic lockdown, she took full advantage of the additional spare time by releasing two books in both 2020 – Macabre Moments and Tales from the Twilight Zone – and 2021 – Mystery, History and Imagination and Facts, Fiction, Legends and Lies.
When Two Worlds Collide will satisfy Joan’s growing fanbase with a fatal coach trip, murders at a Harry Potter exhibition, and a girl who refuses to die.
Although the eight gripping stories which make up her latest collection don’t initially appear to have common ground, the grandmother believes there is a thread running through her work.
Joan, whose favourite authors include Madeleine L’Engle and George Saunders, explained: “These stories in When Two Worlds Collide will grab your attention.
“The characters may be different, but at some point, their lives cross into a parallel world.
“And running through all of the stories is an ethical thread.
“Like with my previous books, bad people don’t thrive, and good people benefit – well, most of the time, that is.”
