Middlesbrough schoolgirl writer, 11, publishes book

Added: (Thu Jan 26 2023)

Pressbox (Press Release) - A schoolgirl from the North East of England is thanking her teachers and parents after becoming an author at the age of just 11.
Talented Arthana Pradeep’s exciting adventure story, Lila and the Locket, has just become available on Amazon.
And the Year 7 pupil from Middlesbrough admits that she couldn’t have done it without help and encouragement.
Arthana said: “I was around eight years old when I started writing short stories on glued-together pieces of paper.
“I only started Lila and the Locket when I was around 10 - it was one of my short stories from when I first started writing and I decided to turn it into an actual novel.
“I found writing stories is a strength I have, and I really enjoy inventing exciting plots.
“My parents and my teachers supported me a lot – and I must thank them for all of their help.”
Lila and the Locket is a gripping novel, aimed at the readers around Arthana’s own age, which shows a mature level of characterisation and imagery for such a young writer.
While her protagonist is just an ordinary girl living a fairly ordinary life, everything changes when she moves house.
Secrets emerge about her family’s past as she tries to discover who has stolen a mysterious heirloom – and why.
Along with her brother and sister, she is forced into a series of dangerous encounters and unbelievable adventures in search of the magical locket.
Arthana, who is inspired to write by authors such as Robin Stevens and Katherine Rundell, said: “Lila’s life is turned upside down when an ancestral magical locket is stolen by a criminal mastermind.
“Lila and her siblings uncover astonishing secrets about their parents while trying to retrieve the family heirloom in a race against time.
“Just when they find the locket and settle down, dangerous obstacles lurk around the corner once again, but will Lila be able to overcome them?
“Lila and the Locket is an action-packed adventure book, that people tell me is very thrilling.”
Arthana is no stranger to fame having already appeared on regional television performing Indian dance during Diwali.
