Herefordshire writer delights readers with new thriller

Added: (Thu Mar 03 2022)

Pressbox (Press Release) - A retired civil servant from Herefordshire has produced one of the most thought-provoking novels of the year.
Such Vague Connections is a psychological thriller where Facebook is the protagonist’s main weapon of influence.
Dave Catchpole’s stunning debut novella has been described as ‘surprising’, ‘different and original’, and ‘very interesting’ by captivated reviewers.
The 71-year-old, who is influenced by the likes of J G Ballard, H E Bates and Colin Wilson, is already considering a sequel following the reception to his book.
Dave said: “Carter Davison has time on his hands, a few bob in his pocket, and a burning desire to improve the lives of his chums.
“Whether they like it or not.
“He is fascinated by the idea of the ‘six degrees of separation’ - so he initiates a strategy.
“What begins as a ‘what if I did this, this and this’ series of casual wonderings is implemented one small step at a time.
“Facebook it is.
“Carter is a watcher, a flaneur, an observer of 21st century human interaction in microcosm.
“There is scope for sequels or even prequels to Such Vague Connections.”
Dave’s masterful suspense thriller is a worrying reminder of the devastation that can be caused by social media interactions.
And, as Such Vague Connections frighteningly explores, those interactions can often be made with the best of intentions.
Dave added: “Once Carter decides to intervene, a selection is made.
“Five pals who, he feels, could do with a surreptitious helping hand.
“One at a time, Carter involves them in a series of devious scenarios.
“But the road to Hell is, as we know, paved with good intentions.
“The road to heaven is much the same - if only Carter knew it.”
Such Vague Connections is mainly set in the Cambridgeshire and East Anglia areas as Dave was living there when he first came up with the idea for his novella.
Prior to publishing Such Vague Connections, the father-of-two published a teenage memoir back in 2008.
