Sussex schoolgirl delighted to publish short stories

Added: (Sat Jan 22 2022)

Pressbox (Press Release) - When schoolgirl Noreen Song began filling lockdown days by creating magical short stories and imaginative poems, she could never have dreamed that she was on the verge of becoming a published author.
As a boarding student at the Cottesmore School in West Sussex, the 10-year-old saw out much of the pandemic filling out her creative writing journal.
And even when she was finally reunited with her parents in China, Noreen continued writing.
As a Christmas surprise and a reward for almost a year of writing, The Short Stories, Poems and Proses Collection was published by her parents.
The reaction to the delightful collection has also surprised Hong Kong-born Noreen.
She explained: “Many people have read The Short Stories, Poems and Proses Collection to their children, and their reaction has been positive.
“They are as amazed as I am, that my work has been published.
“I got the idea for The Short Stories, Poems and Proses Collection from the short stories collections by Enid Blyton – the ones where there are 59 stories to choose from and you never get bored.
“To see how Enid Blyton creates such wonderful fantasy adventures was what gave me the determination to write my own collection.”
The Short Stories, Poems and Proses Collection is made up of more than 59 delightful short stories, more than 20 unique and well-crafted poems, and a handful of pages of remarkable prose.
Featuring friends, mystical creatures, dreams and exotic locations, Noreen’s work is both enthralling and enchanting.
And the award-winning artist has also designed and sketched the covers for her debut anthology as well as the illustrations which feature throughout the anthology.
Noreen, who lists the likes of J K Rowling and Jane Austen among her favourite authors along with Enid Blyton, admits she had the writing bug long before she embarked on composing her debut collection.
She explained: “My passion for writing began at the age of eight – just after I first came to the UK.
“My mum has always praised my writing which has given me the confidence to continue with my stories and poems.
“Having an imagination like mine is also a great help.
“Since I finished The Short Stories, Poems and Proses Collection I have started work on two further books that I hope will also be published.”
Just days before the official launch of The Short Stories, Poems and Proses Collection, Noreen was admitted to hospital with a fever.
As a thank you to the staff who helped her back to good health, she is donating all profits from her first book to the NHS.
