Retired North Yorks teacher’s new book released

Pressbox (Press Release) - Retired North Yorkshire teacher Hazel Goss has finally released the highly anticipated third novel in her five-star-rated Pathway trilogy.
Following the rave reviews of her previous two releases, The Pathway Forward and The Pathway Back, anticipation was growing for the finale.
And fans have not been disappointed with The Rocky Pathway already being described by critics as ‘exciting’, ‘a great book’ and ‘I couldn’t put it down’.
Hazel, who is also a full-time carer for her husband, only turned to writing when she retired from the classroom.
But her time-travelling novels have quickly caught the imagination.
The 72-year-old’s latest gripping novel is both a nostalgic reminder of simpler times and a race-against time thriller.
Hazel explained: “The Rocky Pathway begins in June 2048, with 13-year-old Daniel going missing at a Yorkshire tourist attraction called Brimham Rocks.
While clambering amongst the rocks he finds a portal to the past and is transported to 1859.
Jo and Mary take the frightened and bewildered Daniel in, and he helps them on the farm, but at night he is beset with homesickness.
Everything is so different, no television, phones or games machines; Butter and cheese must be made, not bought at a supermarket.
As Daniel is pining for home, some 190 years in the past, his parents and police are baffled by his disappearance. The family friend, Xen, knows the secret in Brimham Rocks and suspects Daniel has found it by accident but telling his parents would not help because the portal only works one way. There is no hope of Daniel returning to his own time.”
The Rocky Pathway is the last in The Pathway trilogy but can be read and enjoyed without reading the previous books.
It was by attending her sister-in-law’s literary parties that Hazel had the opportunity to first read her work aloud.
After joining a creative writing group, she enrolled in a ‘Write a Book in a Year’ course.
It took longer than a year but Forced to Flee, a story of families caught up in ethnic cleansing during the collapse of Yugoslavia, became Hazel’s first published novel.
With The Pathway trilogy, her writing and storytelling have gone from strength to strength.
Hazel, who lists the likes of Diana Gabaldon, Charles Dickens, John Steinbeck and Charlotte Bronte amongst her favourite authors, added: “I have enjoyed writing this novel more than all the others.”
As well as forging a successful late career as an author, Hazel is also a founding member of the Harrogate-based Next Chapter writing group.
