Lincs murder mystery nears end of the road

Added: (Sat May 22 2021)

Pressbox (Press Release) - Former music manager and journalist Cary Smith is reaching the end of the road in his bid to turn Lincolnshire into the murder capital of Britain.
The East Midlands county is perhaps best known for its fens, estuaries and historic cathedral.
But for the past eight years it has also been the setting for some of the most unusual and gruesome crimes.
Cary’s heart-stopping Lincolnshire Murder Mystery Series, which began with Dead Spit in 2013, has won him an army of devoted fans.
The twelfth and supposed final book, Best Served Cold, may have narrowly missed out on reaching the top ten – peaking at 11 – but it has already attracted a further string of five-star reviews for the former athletics champion.
Cary’s latest page-turner has been described as ‘totally engrossing’, ‘an excellent, unusual story’, and ‘constantly absorbing’.
Yet again the prolific author pits his troubled protagonist, DI Inga Larsson, against a psychopath with murder on his mind – only this time she has to work in the midst of a pandemic.
Cary said: “The morning news on the radio is for many a critical start to their day.
“Unfortunately, the latest about the Covid-19 pandemic, boring politics and tales of wars all tend to get in the way of really vital news for one listener.
“He killed this vile woman the previous evening.
“Not an accident, you understand.
“Gordon killed her because he needed to - he was desperate for a bit of hands-on practice in readiness for the big one.”
Since Cary’s first suspicious death on the narrow streets of the Cathedral City, Lincolnshire’s constabulary has been tackling child abductions in Skegness, farm murders, roadside corpses and even feuding am-dram groups.
Prior to putting the coastal county on the literary map with his captivating novels, Cary enjoyed a successful and varied career.
The Sussex and Southern Counties cross-country champion in his younger days, began his working life on Fleet Street.
After moving onto music management, where he once famously booked the Rolling Stones to play in a church hall, Cary became a popular radio presenter.
He published his first novel, A Shot of Snuff, which is set during the 2010 General Election, to critical acclaim.
And followed it up with the first novel in the epic Lincolnshire Murder Mystery Series the following year.
Since book one in 2013, the Lincolnshire volumes have been attracting a growing number of rave reviews.
Critic Mel Sumner said: “Avenues and alleyways is the best way to describe the intricate weaving of a novel to a finish that will leave you just gasping with admiration.”
And fellow-five star reviewer Stephanie Warner added: “Good, easy holiday reading… I really enjoyed it and I enjoyed the Lincolnshire location and use of local dialect. I look forward to reading more.”
