Opposing the idea of expendable fashion, Gut Instinkt seeks to create leather accessories with lasting value and an outspoken personality. “We consider belts disposable, offering little personality beyond a logo or the fashion obvious”, says founder Ales Kernjak . W ith his daring new brand Gut Instinkt, the global citizen seeks to offer an alternative to ‘the gold, the bland and the ugly’, as he puts it . Rather than seeing the belt as a functional accessory, Gut Instinkt likes to regard this m uch needed item as nothing other than art . “We want to be pioneers, fusing art and craft with an appetite for adventure”, says Ales . “Modern nom ads, rebels who carve their own path through life and foreign cultures, were im portant sources of inspiration”, he adds .


Gut Instinkt’s first collection consists out of a selection of styles from wardrobe essentials to statement pieces, each reflecting a bold individuality that doesn’t compromise on the highest quality. Whilst the first collection was designed with a lot of edginess and attitude in mind, the material originates from ‘the land of quality leather’ and ultimate craftsmanship: Italy. Proud of traditional standards and techniques, Gut Instinkt’s items are hand finished using full- grain cow - hide: the highest quality of exotic skins originating from sustainable sources . “The natural marks and patterns signify the origin of genuine leather”, Ales explains . “Moreover, as we are committed to the finest techniques, we only use colour treatments and moisturising creams following vege - table tanning . You won’t find detergents, solvents or oils in any of our processes .”


Whilst the brand relies on ‘the artisan’s workbench’ and holds a deep respect for tradition, the aesthetic aspect of the belts is undoubtedly modern . The debut collection includes six unisex product ranges: Artisan, Essentials, Black, Denim, Wild and Feminine. With creative variations in cut, finishing, types of animal leather and ornaments, no belt is the same - yet they are equally daring and bold, in their very own way. Max and Suzette Rademacher, an eclectic couple of professional creatives, have been chosen to model the first collection and show the expressive potential of belts . “When it comes to styling of the belts, we encourage people to think of unconventional ways of incorporating a belt into their wardrobe”, says Ales . “Why not layering belts or wearing them as hair accessories?
