- Digital Marketing | Create customer contact points on all online channels
- What is happening in Iran in the field of digital marketing services has caused dissatisfaction and distrust of businesses to the agencies providing these services.
In fact, poor knowledge among providers of digital marketing services is the main cause of these problems. Lack of a strong plan for strategic and targeted implementation of digital marketing campaigns is further exacerbated. Meanwhile, what makes Digital Marketing Services customers unable to easily track their needs is the lack of communication and coherence between the agencies' work units.
At Aran Creative and Digital Marketing Advertising Agency, we have tried to differentiate ourselves from other digital marketing agencies by addressing these shortcomings and meeting the needs of our customers.
At Aran Digital Marketing and Creative Advertising Agency, we will do our best to bring your business to its intended purpose through the digital marketing process. During this process, always and in a moment, contact the experts and specialists of Aran Agency.

~ FLAVEL MONTEIRO
I like to share my book COME TOGETHER – THE WORLD'S FINEST CHEFS.
These unsettling days have brought upon us a gloom, sadness, fatigue… and this Easter I just wanted to see people smile and what better way to support chefs and at the same time giving people a FREE 340 page eBook for Easter.
It was the evening of March 23rd, 2020 when watching news footage of an array of coffins of those fallen from COVID-19 in Italy and that was the inspiration to publish this book. “I saw people all around me who were taking shelter in their homes against this invisible enemy and my colleagues in the restaurant industry suffering. I was inspired to find a way for all of us to join together in solidarity with those on the front lines of this battle, and connect as one in a celebration of something that we can share—great food!“ My goal was to mount the formidable task of getting this book put together and published it by Sunday, April 12th… an Easter celebration if you will. It is truly amazing what one can accomplish. This labor of love was made possible by an incredible array of individuals and features 84 of the finest chefs from around the world. From 6 continents, 31 countries, with over 50 Michelin stars, and representing some of the best restaurants from Brazil to Australia who are featured on La Liste, the World’s 50 Best Restaurants, Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants and with a plethora of international awards—we have indeed Come Together!

- For Mother’s Day, Center for Community Advocacy honors health education volunteers called Promotoras
- The Spanish word “promotora” translates simply to “promoter,” but in the farmworker community it means so much more.
Salinas, CA, April 11, 2020 - A Promotora is a camp health aide, a lay health adviser, and outreach worker, a community health representative and more.
Most Promotoras go by another title — madre. As mothers they dream of providing a better future for their children. They dream of helping to create healthy, safe and strong neighborhoods.
With Mother’s Day approaching on May 3, the Center for Community Advocacy wishes to honor all of its CCA-trained, volunteer Promotoras. These women remain significant pillars within CCA’s efforts to provide education, orientation and health support to farmworkers and other low-income working families.
This year CCA has created an awareness campaign called “Por el Amor de Madre” (For the Love of Mother), and is accepting donations through its website www.cca-viva.org to aid the Promotoras program.
Trained by CCA and health service providers, Promotoras comunitarias deliver preventative health information/interventions to neighborhoods in the Salinas and Pajaro valleys. These efforts help educate their peers about chronic diseases, behavioral health and youth violence prevention. For many farmworker families, Promotoras may be their only source of health information. This may mean the difference between preventive care and diagnosis of a preventable chronic disease.
Through CCA’s Promotoras, each year hundreds of farmworker families and other low-income families learn and teach others about:
● simple and healthier ways to eat and cook.
● ways to increase their physical fitness.
● how to prevent, detect and make referrals to proper health providers.
To support the CCA’s Promotoras program, or to get more information, call CCA at (831) 753-2324 ext. 12.
About Center for Community Advocacy
CCA provides education, orientation and legal support to farmworkers and other low-income working families who want to establish neighborhood committees that work to improve housing and health conditions. CCA trains these committees to negotiate with landlords to resolve issues such as unsafe housing conditions, housing discrimination and security deposits. CCA also trains these committees to provide preventative health information and interventions in their neighborhoods.

PFIZER RECEIVES EUROPEAN APPROVAL FOR ONCOLOGY BIOSIMILAR, RUXIENCE (RITUXIMAB) ON April 2, 2020-- Pfizer Inc. today announced that the European Commission (EC) has approved RUXIENCE (rituximab), a monoclonal antibody (mAb) and biosimilar to MabThera (rituximab), for the treatment of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL), chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) and microscopic polyangiitis (MPA), and pemphigus vulgaris (PV).
”The approval of biosimilars such as RUXIENCE is an important development for the treatment of certain cancers and autoimmune conditions,” said Igor Aurer, M.D., Ph.D., Professor of Medicine and Head of Hematology Division, University Hospital Centre Zagreb, Croatia. “It’s a step toward allowing clinicians an additional treatment option which can help improve access for patients in need of this established medicine.”
The EC approval is based on a comprehensive data package which demonstrated biosimilarity of RUXIENCE to the reference product. This includes results from the REFLECTIONS B3281006 clinical comparative study, which evaluated the efficacy, safety and immunogenicity, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of RUXIENCE and found no clinically meaningful differences in safety or efficacy compared to the reference product in patients with CD20-positive, low tumor burden follicular lymphoma.
“Biosimilars like RUXIENCE exhibit a similar safety and efficacy profile to the originator product and have the potential to improve treatment access while reducing healthcare costs,” said Masum Hossain, regional president, Oncology International Developed Markets at Pfizer. “Building on our ongoing commitment to bring biosimilars to market, we look forward to making RUXIENCE available to patients in the EU in the coming months.”
Biosimilars have been a significant catalyst for change for the healthcare industry over the last decade, with the potential to help create more sustainable healthcare systems. With more than 10 years of global in-market experience and a portfolio which now includes seven approved biosimilar products in Europe, Pfizer is proud to be a leader and at the forefront of this vital healthcare segment. This approval follows the positive recommendation from the Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) in January 2020. RUXIENCE was recently made available to adult patients in the United States for the treatment of NHL, CLL, GPA and MPA and also launched in Japan in January 2020.

- Meet Jammu and Kashmir's Youngest Publishing House Owner Saraf Ali Bhat
- Stay faithful to the stories in your heads.
_Paula Hawkins (author of Into the Water).
Having my dreams touching skies, I never ever imagined that I would seek inspiration from a boy not older than me. And more than that I never imagined that people will start competing to seek that inspiration.
At least all the writers and readers should know him, love him and get inspired.
P.s This is not a promotional feature and I am just featuring him because I believe that what he has been doing would make so many people reluctant to feature him and I want to be the first.
Standing in the list of youngest authors of Kashmir, Saraf Ali Bhat has authored "A smile worth a billion poems" and "triggered sorrows", which depict the love and passion that he has internalised for writing and he takes us on the nostalgic ride of his journey.
Belonging from Kadlabal, Pampore this 20 year old "kid" is the youngest Kashmiri to start a publishing house on his own and his terrific passion and love for writing leads him to become the owner of a publishing house which is the only publishing house to publish the work and dreams of people without any cost, and thus defining the name, "helping hands".
I always wonder how secluded and lovely and contended his heart must be after publishing six dreams so far and then I wish, I could be the first. Well, being first is absolutely not possible now, but I really admire him and wish to be the next him; my heart definitely needs that seclusion and peace. Had he been making business, he would've been earning but ofcourse he isn't earning, rather spending. Spending in the way of dreams and desires of those thousands of people who are writing but are asked to stay back due to the economical brutality that's attacking their dreams. And here , I repeat the first line I wrote, I never ever imagined that I would seek inspiration from a boy not older than me.
I won't say that, "after a lot of struggle, I got a chance to talk to him". Because this line would have made sense only if people had acknowledged his existence as a so called celebrity. But, now when everybody is as dumb as me, and not conscious about this helping hand, and thus not turning him in a star yet, I felt no difficulty in reaching out to him and without even an introduction, I started with, 'Why are you doing this?' and after making sure that I was talking about his helping hand and not anything else, he replied," Kashmir is not in that era where writing is a full time profession but my artistic sense to take it as a passion and not profession could help the people and especially the youngsters of this war torn place to create histories. I am not running a business and neither I want to run such a business where I get paid for fulfilling dreams, dreams of those who are able to pay. And a business where people who can't pay are asked to give up on their dreams."
And after making myself capable enough to believe him, my heart found peace and excitement grew, not because of reason his heart has found peace but because of I realized that I know more than a dozen people who write as beautiful as I've never read but can't publish that beauty because either they don't have bucks to pay for it or even if they have, their parents want to spend them for a good cause; not knowing that there can be no better cause than spending in the way of their dreams. I bothered him again to ask about his life as an author and his experience with writing.
"In my writing journey I faced a lot of rejections about the particular genre I wrote about. Not letting other beings to go through the same I thereby decided to publish the works of those unheard voices that were truly worthwhile. I came up all alone with no one as a part of it but lately had a good helping team among whom Cealice, an Alaskan book reviewer is a part.
Being unaware of what a published author stands for I first wrote as I wanted to but then came to know that writing is not only about what we want to write it's also about what readers want to read," Saraf said.
"I don't know of others but yes publishing journey starts with receiving, reviewing and refining the manuscripts one is likely to get so their house publishes at its best. Speaking on my behalf as a writer I just am not satisfied with the costly packages most of the publishing houses come up with.
Luck didn't favour me going to the place where a Muslim wants to die, where Moses and as great Prophets desired to be born. Still but I've been to places of values and norms.. I've visited almost all the Sufi shrines who there and then kept spreading love by their religious approach. I've been always inspired by what they did and what they wrote,"he added.
I am still stuck in awe and amazement that I experienced while I came to know about him and I feel unfortunate that the people of his motherland, whom he dedicates this love and passion to, are yet to recognize him and even I came to know about this hand that helps the dreamers through the Alaskan book reviewer he talks about and not any other person living around me.
A computer science student, managing his studies, his own musings(hardly maybe), fighting and spending to see a smile on any face that looks of a dreamer who dreams his name written on the cover page of the book which he has been writing with love and emotions and memories poured in it and longing to get it published. All this because he wants to spread the love of writing and the slogan of his publishing house, "The voice of unpublished, unheard", makes on brood over how passionate and determined one can be about not only writing but anything.
We live at such a place on earth, where sufferings have been a major part of our lives, where dreams get shattered and hearts broken. Yet in such a place, people like Saraf truly turn out be inspiration and it's not only him but there must be a number of such people who would be ready to sacrifice their musings for our sake and unfortunately they also are yet to be acknowledged, to be loved.
"Working with Helping Hands Publishing House was one of the best experiences of my life. The way this team supported all of my interests and values are highly appreciable. There is nothing left to improve for them all. They didn't publish my book or that market of my poems, but it's my dreams that got published and my desires that were fulfilled. Helping hand is not just a name, its actually a hand, that's helping writers like me", said by Soliha Shabir, author of "Obsolete - the poem market.

A varied range of substitutes, such as customer relationship management (CRM) software, offer subscription management as a part of their modules or applications. This is expected to constrain the market during the forecast period. Growth in e-commerce and online businesses around the globe creates profitable opportunities in the subscription management software market.

VIDAA International Selects Aria Systems’ Billing and Monetization Platform to Support Newly Upgraded Content Platform on Hisense Smart TVs
March 3, 2020 – Aria Systems, the leader in helping enterprises grow subscription- and usage-based revenue, today announced that VIDAA International, a subsidiary of fast-growing consumer electronics company Hisense, has selected the company’s cloud billing and monetization platform to support its streaming content platform available on a majority of Hisense, Toshiba and private-label TV models in over 30 countries. A significantly upgraded version of the VIDAA platform, featuring the integration of additional content providers and a new user interface, was unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January.
Aria’s platform will improve the management of VIDAA subscription accounts internationally and help generate recurring revenue across multiple geographies, currencies and languages, all while maintaining compliance with local privacy and data protection laws. Aria will also enable the company to begin monetizing the millions of latent customer accounts already registered in its database by offering new premium content via subscription and on demand.
“We are very pleased to announce our partnership with VIDAA International and Hisense,” said Tom Dibble, President & CEO, Aria Systems. “With the global surge in consumer demand for streaming services and smart devices, the presence of an agile billing and subscriber management platform becomes a key competitive differentiator for service providers. The combination of VIDAA, one of the premier smart TV platforms for streaming content, and Aria’s platform will provide tremendous flexibility for a variety of monetization models and deliver an exceptional experience to the end user, no matter the country in which they reside or the language they speak.”

- 5,645 Moroccan Prisoners Pardoned in Preventive Measures against Covid-19 Virus
- The King of Morocco pardoned 5,645 prisoners in preventive measures against Covid-19 virus. Since the outbreak of the virus, Morocco was one the first countries to implement stricter measures to fight the spread of Covid-19
Berlin, Germany,, April 6, 2020 -In a statement by the Moroccan justice ministry, the King of Morocco pardoned, on Sunday, 5,645 prisoners in preventive measures against Covid-19 virus. The King called for "taking all necessary measures to protect inmates in adult prisons as well as correctional institutions housing minor prisoners under 18 years old from the spread of coronavirus." The prisoners who benefited from the Royal pardon were selected on the basis of strictly objective criteria taking into account their age, their precarious state of health and the length of their detention, as well as good conduct, good behavior and discipline they have shown throughout their incarceration.
The justice ministry statement added that "Due to the exceptional circumstances associated with the actual situation, the process of the release will be implemented in a gradual manner". In this context and in accordance with the Royal instructions, the beneficiaries will be subject to surveillance, medical tests, as well as the necessary quarantine period in their homes. The statement concludes that all necessary measures will be taken in order to ensure the safety of the released prisoners and that of the people they will be in contact with.
Since the outbreak of the virus, Morocco was one the first countries to implement stricter measures to fight the spread of Covid-19 by shutting down its airspace and by imposing a curfew. Moroccan authorities invested a $1 billion fund to upgrade health facilities and help the country's economic sectors in the wake of the Covid-19 virus outbreak. The fund helped acquire the necessary health equipment and assisted sectors such as tourism and maintained jobs and mitigated the pandemic’s social repercussions.
Last Saturday, the Moroccan Ministry of Health said that the total number of COVID-19 infections rose to 919 with 59 deaths and 66 recovered cases. Since appearing in Wuhan, China, last December, the novel coronavirus has spread to at least 182 countries and regions. Data compiled by the U.S.-based Johns Hopkins University shows worldwide infections surpassing 1.2 million with over 69,527 deaths and 264,048 recovered people. About the Central Coast YMCA
Formed in 1989, the Central Coast YMCA began with the merger of two independent YMCAs; the Salinas Community YMCA (founded in 1921) and the Watsonville Family YMCA (founded in 1898). Originally a USO built in 1941, with the purpose of supporting American troops during World War II, the YMCA of the Monterey Peninsula joined the association in 1990. In 1998 the South County YMCA became the fourth branch in the association, extending its service area to the residents of south Monterey County. The YMCA of San Benito County became the fifth and most recent addition to the association in 1999.
CCYMCA is an independent, private, nonprofit corporation, a part of the YMCA of the USA, but responsible for its own policies, programs, and budgets. - Kata Cabrera’s Determination Helps her Overcome Obstacles
- No matter the obstacle, Katarina Cabrera is hard-wired to persevere — always refusing to give up.
Salinas, CA, April 05, 2020 - The Alisal High School senior can certainly thank her parents for that trait, but the game of basketball also helped her develop her signature spunk and stamina.
“I have been playing basketball my whole life, and fell in love with it,” said Katarina, whose friends call her Kata for short.
When Gil Basketball Academy began 11 years ago, Kata couldn’t wait to sign up.
“It was so exciting because it was a big group of kids, and we did drills, we scrimmaged, it was great,” she said. A coach told her about GBA’s select travel teams and she joined — “no questions asked.”
“My dad took me to the next practice, and to my surprise it was all boys, no girls in sight,” she said. “At first I was a little overwhelmed and nervous, but once we got into practice all the nerves sorta just went away.”
Kata competed against boys for two years, “and today those boys on my team are some of my closest friends,” she said. “I was like one of the guys with them. I feel like it pushed me to feel more comfortable on the court, and just play the way I knew how.”
The 5-foot, 3-inch shooting guard played all four years at Alisal. Her senior season the girls team won the league championship and advanced to the Central Coast Section playoffs. She was awarded the most improved player on the team.
Born and raised in Salinas, Kata grew up in a family of six. All three of her siblings were girls.
A scholar athlete, the top student plans to choose among the UC San Diego, University of California, Davis, or University of California, Santa Barbara. Her goal is to obtain a degree in biology, and ultimately become a pediatrician.
“Education is a big thing for me,” she said. “I have big future plans for myself, which is why I push myself to work hard in school.”
Through GBA, Kata was able to travel (she played basketball and experienced different cultures in Mexico, Italy, Dominican Republic, and Costa Rica). She also toured college campuses through GBA’s visitation program.
“Not only did GBA help to develop me as a player and create a deeper love for basketball, but they helped to create the work ethic for school I have today, and I thank them for that.”
Kata has also volunteered to coach young GBA players.
“It feels so good because you are someone they look up to and you get to see them develop as a player first hand,” she said. “It’s amazing.”
Coaching also gives her an opportunity to help kids find in themselves the work ethic and ability to overcome obstacles that Kata found in herself.
The future pediatrician simply never took “no” for an answer.
Kata vividly remembers a doctor’s appointment she had as a child. Her pediatrician walked into the exam room to give her a clean bill of health. Looking at Kata’s height on a chart, the doctor told the young girl that basketball certainly wasn’t in her future.
“That broke my heart for some reason,” she said. “After we left I cried. I have had many encounters where someone told me I was too short. But really that was just talk because I showed height didn’t really matter. I learned to block out the negativity and just play my game, the one I enjoy doing and pushed to better myself.”

- VNA & Hospice celebrates National Volunteer Week
- Volunteers do not earn a paycheck, but their rewards cannot be measured.
Salinas, CA, April 04, 2020 - Volunteers do not earn a paycheck, but their rewards cannot be measured. At VNA, volunteers make it possible to help the nonprofit achieve its ultimate goal — to provide care in an ethical, effective, compassionate and fiscally responsible manner.
With National Volunteer Week (April 19-25) approaching, VNA honors its compassionate crew of hardworking folks who give their time and boundless energy to the cause.
VNA volunteers spend every minute building the foundation of someone else’s life, which offers them deep rewards.
Hospice volunteer Jake Ragsdale believes helping people directly is the most fulfilling thing he can do, and he is deeply committed to serving others.
“Often, the patients we visit are lonely and don't have family in the area, or any immediate family at all,” said Ragsdale. “Spending time with them makes them feel valued and brings them joy and purpose. Spending an hour or two with a hospice patient once per week can make their day, if not their entire week.”
Ragsdale’s payback? “It's always rewarding to show up to visit a patient and be greeted with a big smile and excitement,” he said.
Ragsdale was drawn to hospice by his mother Gail, a nurse for 44 years.
“No one should have to be alone or feel lonely during the final stage of their life,” he said. “I love hearing about the past experiences of the patients I visit, especially the veterans. Through providing emotional support, compassion, and friendship we are able to improve the quality of life for others. This is a special gift and it is deeply fulfilling.”
Fellow VNA volunteer Susan Eastman will turn 70 next month, yet the former nurse and U.S. Navy veteran never thought of retirement as an opportunity to slow down.
“Volunteering fulfills my need to be needed,” she said. “After I retired, I had spare time and wanted to fill that void. I feel my clients appreciate the effort hospice extends to them. I am glad to be a part of that.”
The most rewarding part of Eastman’s VNA experience as a patient volunteer is having made a new friend in one of the patients she visits.
“Both she and her daughter have been extremely kind and inclusive, to the point I feel like a part of their family,” Eastman said. “I never would have met them had it not been for my VNA Hospice experience.”
Another patient, a woman in a nursing home, usually doesn't remember Eastman week to week. “But I bring her a coffee from Burger King, and then she is glad to see me,” she said.
Volunteer opportunities
From the initial phone call and in person interview, VNA works with prospective volunteers to find the right fit. VNA provides an orientation and team training, where volunteers can learn more about hospice, the interdisciplinary team, and how to work with patients.
Those seeking rewarding volunteer opportunities with VNA should reach out to Volunteer Coordinator Quinn Junghans at (831) 751-5500, or email volunteer@ccvna.com.
VNA offers prospective volunteers varied options: Visiting Volunteer (direct, nonmedical support services to palliative and hospice patients and their families); Office Volunteer (skills and abilities that can be utilized in an office setting); Veteran Volunteer (connecting veteran volunteers within the community with veterans who are currently on hospice); Pet Therapy Volunteer (providing companionship and enhancing quality of life for hospice patients through visits with certified pets); and Therapy Volunteer (services and support from licensed beauticians, massage therapists and/or music therapists).

- Artichoke Festival’s wild and wacky 5K Beach Run postponed

Monterey, CA, April 04, 2020 — Scheduled for May 2, the Artichoke Festival’s 5K Beach Run promised hundreds of wacky enthusiasts the chance to run along the beach dressed as their favorite vegetable.
The current COVID-19 Shelter-in-Place requirements make that event impossible — but don’t put away those artichoke and broccoli costumes just yet. The festival has postponed the fun run, rescheduling it for Saturday, Sept. 12.
Those who registered for the May 2 event will be able to participate on Sept. 12 with no changes to fees. Those who can’t make the new date should contact the festival via email at ArtichokeFest5k@gmail.com. The festival is still taking registration through www.active.com.
The 5K Beach Run takes place along the sandy, windswept Del Monte Beach, beginning at the Monterey Tides Hotel. It was originally planned as a prelude to the two-day Artichoke Festival, but that event has now been moved to Aug. 8-9 at the Monterey County Fairgrounds & Event Center in Monterey.

- JD Solís takes Full Advantage of Every Opportunity
- Wedged into the southeast corner of California, between the Mexico border and the Colorado River, the city of Calexico offers limited opportunities beyond seasonal farming and government work.
Salinas, CA, April 02, 2020 - As a fifth-grader, José David (JD) Solis didn’t understand the reasons behind his parents’ decision to pick up and move the family 525 miles north to Salinas.
Today, JD is 16 and a sophomore at Alisal High School, and fully recognizes the relocation as a turning point in his young life.
“Now I look back and realize that it was actually a blessing to move here,” he said. “The number of opportunities I receive here is higher than if we had stayed in Calexico.”
One of those opportunities came through Gil Basketball Academy. At first JD found it difficult to find friends, and to assimilate into his new environment.
“It was very different from Calexico, so just adapting to the city and everything was challenging,” he said.
Gil Basketball Academy helped JD both socially and academically.
“It opened so many doors for me,” he said. “I’ve met so many new people and created so many new friendships. I think my favorite thing in GBA is, of course, being able to play with all my friends, but it’s the bond we all built at the academy. It’s all one big family on and off the court.”
Through Gil Basketball Academy’s select travel team, JD has ventured to far-flung places — including Mexico and Italy. What’s more, GBA’s emphasis on education reveals an often-obscured path to college.
“My goal is to attend a nice college and play ball,” he said. “With a good education you can do anything as long as you put your mind to it. GBA prioritizes that. What happens in the classroom always comes first.”
When it comes to his own education, JD gives full credit to his parents. His mother works for Opportunity Fund (providing loans to low- and moderate-income immigrants, women and underserved small business owners). JD’s father is a freshman AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) teacher at Alisal High, helping prepare students for success beyond high school.
JD has a sister in fifth grade and a brother who is a senior at Alisal — and both play for GBA.
“Playing basketball has helped make me into the person I am today,” JD said. “It has taught me a lot, on and off the court.”
The 5-foot, 9-inch shooting guard was part of the 2019 junior varsity team that went 20-4, and was called up late in the season to help the varsity squad in the playoffs.
“One of the most important things I learned from the game was that failure is a way of life, and you shouldn’t hang your head or feel sorry for yourself,” he said. “Being a part of a team made me realize that you can’t do everything on your own.”
Without his immediate family and his GBA family, JD said he would be completely lost.
“I have no clue where I’d be right now,” he said. “I don’t think I would be on the streets or anything because of my amazing parents. They’re always there for me when I need them, they always believe in me and they wouldn’t let me throw away my future.”
JD said GBA taught him how to love his community and be more appreciative of the things he has in life.
“It really is one of the best things to happen to me and this city,” he said. “It helps the whole community, but especially kids who don’t have that much support at home. It keeps kids active, here playing ball and not on the streets.”

- Expat’s heroic war tales published in new book
- An ex-pat grandfather has brought the heroics of World War II alive in his remarkable five-star debut novel.
Retired insurance broker Kedric Rhodes has cashed-in his life-long passion for reading military history with a gripping thriller.
The History Lesson is a highly convincing story that brings the past and present together to solve the mysterious death of local war hero.
Two protagonists from some of World War II’s most infamous events, now in their 80s, are brought to the fore in the well-researched book.
Since its publication, Kedric’s first published work has received glowing five-star reviews.
The 74-year-old grandfather of six believes his no-nonsense approach to the narrative has appealed to readers.
He said: “I felt a lot of novels were full of fluff, so I wanted to write a book that had little in the way of irrelevant descriptions.
“The History Lesson is about the death of a believed war hero.
“Is it murder or suicide?
“A history lesson at the village school proves to be the catalyst for the truth to slowly unfurl.”
Kedric relocated to Spain with his wife of 50 years, Jen, almost a decade ago.
Following a successful career in commercial insurance broking, the father of three still holds two non-executive directorships.
Following the success of The History Lesson, Kedric is currently writing his second novel.
He added: “Everyone who has read The History Lesson seems to like it.
“I have started writing a second book which is set in the year 2042 when some 100 year files are opened.”
Since the publication of The History Lesson reviewers have described it as ‘fast-moving’, ‘a great read’ and ‘informative’.
Reader Susan Champion stated: “The wonderful opening line, ‘The body gently swung in the slight draught’ promises a good detection story, and we are not disappointed.
“The past parallels the present and brings us to an unexpected conclusion.
“The author displays a good knowledge of the war years.”

- Edinburgh writer delights fans with new book
- A retired Edinburgh social worker is proving productive as a pensioner after releasing his eleventh collection of short stories inside a decade.
Since 2010 Roger Leslie Paige has been entertaining and exciting a growing number of readers with his remarkably imaginative tales.
In His Own Land and Other Stories is yet another thought-provoking collection from the Scottish capital’s most creative septuagenarian.
Featuring stories of strange disappearances on a Mediterranean island, a star-gazing financial expert, a hallucinating French film star and an American detective dodging bullets, Roger’s latest anthology will prove both gripping and bizarre.
The 73-year-old admits he has always been drawn to the short story.
Roger said: “I remember pieces I wrote when I was 15 at grammar school but unfortunately teachers discouraged me because I wrote stuff they found difficult to mark.
“I was about 25 when I began to write creatively again and since my retirement I’ve had a lot more time to breathe and dream.
“My favourite genre of writing has always been the short story.
“Writers like Chekhov, Camus and Beckett inspired me to write - I was astonished by what they wrote and still am.”
During a varied and colourful career Roger worked initially as a teacher before spending time in America as a fruit picker and paper-mill janitor.
On his return to Scotland he graduated from Edinburgh University in 1981 and worked until his retirement as a social worker.
Roger’s previous short story collections include The Choir Girls, New and Selected Stories, Winterhope and A Matter of Balance.
Since his retirement in 2008 he has also written a book based on the Edinburgh charity, the Cyrenian Trust.
Roger added: “In His Own Land and Other Stories features stories - some humorous or semi-autobiographical – that have been written since I retired.
“I tend to make up all kinds of characters - none of whom bear any resemblance to persons living or dead, including me.
“I am astonished each time I have an idea that blossoms into some kind of story.”
For more information go to Amazon and search for Roger Leslie Paige, where the Kindle and paperback versions of In His Own Land and Other Stories are available.

- Artichoke Festival postpones event to Aug. 8-9
- The Artichoke Festival’s mission has always centered around connecting people through a unique, family-oriented celebration, while giving back to the communities it serves.
Monterey, CA, March 29, 2020 - The Artichoke Festival’s mission has always centered around connecting people through a unique, family-oriented celebration, while giving back to the communities it serves.
In these uncertain days, however, the idea of connecting people takes on new meaning. In light of the current crisis surrounding COVID-19, and in the interest of public health and safety, the Artichoke Festival has moved our annual summer celebration from May 30-31 to Aug. 8-9, at the Monterey County Fairgrounds & Event Center in Monterey.
The Artichoke Festival will honor any tickets purchased by patrons for the May event, and prices and ticket packages will remain the same for new guests.
Held continuously since 1959, the festival celebrates the harvest of California’s state vegetable and the region that has become known as the “Artichoke Center of the World.” Over the years, the festival became a primary source of funding for local nonprofits that depend upon a successful event for their viability.
The festival has added Donate Now buttons to its website at www.artichokefestival.org, with 100 percent of all donations given to the following charity partners: Monterey County Food Bank; Manzanita Youth Playground; Monterey County PAL; Meals on Wheels Salinas; and Monterey County Agricultural Education, Inc.
Moving forward, the Artichoke Festival will continue to follow recommendations by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), along with local health agencies, in planning the Aug. 8-9 event.

- Max’s Helping Paws Foundation Launches Special Fund
- Though we’re all required to stay home, and activity has all but disappeared, community spirit and support has shown no signs of slowing down.
Monterey, CA, March 27, 2020 - Though we’re all required to stay home, and activity has all but disappeared, community spirit and support has shown no signs of slowing down. Max’s Helping Paws Foundation would like all of its friends and neighbors to know that — given Monterey County families and their pets need help during these trying times — the nonprofit continues in its ongoing mission to help pay for necessary treatments for pets in crisis.
“Max’s Helping Paws will continue to serve pet owners facing extreme financial hardship with a pet in a health crisis in this community, just as we always have,” said founder Dyana Klein, who co-founded Max’s Helping Paws with her husband, Dr. Jonathan Fradkin, a veterinary internist following the death of her 14-year-old Miniature Pinscher Max.
Toward that end, the nonprofit has created “Chestnut’s Crisis Fund” to help pet owners experiencing severe and immediate personal financial loss resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. The fund will run in tandem with the foundation’s regular financial support program, which remains unchanged. “We believe that, because of loss of employment, virtually overnight the pool of community members who will be in need of financial assistance to help keep their companion pet from suffering has multiplied,” Klein said. “This provides an additional resource to help those who, just a few short days ago, might not have needed support, but suddenly must decide between getting essential treatment for their pet or feeding their family.”
Under the Chestnut’s Fund program, Max’s will pay up to 75 percent up to a maximum of $2,500 for those impacted financially by COVID-19. The fund will operate as funds are available, during a critical time when businesses are shut down and jobs are lost. As with all MHPF programs, pet owners must apply through their treating veterinary practice.
During this time, Max’s also wants to shine a light on its veterinary partners, key components in the process. Still open for business during COVID-19 these practices stand ready to treat pets during this crisis. Many have special protocols in place regarding client interaction, pet care, sanitation and payment options. A complete list of Max’s veterinary partners, including contact information, hours and restrictions in treatments can be found HERE.
Believing financial circumstances should never decide a companion pet’s fate, Max’s relies on the generosity of the community to fund its mission. Donations are accepted through the nonprofit’s website www.maxshelpingpaws.org.
About Max’s Helping Paws
Financial circumstances should never decide a companion pet’s fate. Because of that, Max’s Helping Paws Foundation reduces economic euthanasia, surrender and suffering of severely ill or injured pets by providing pet owners assistance with the costs of urgent medical care. Through the years the foundation has assisted more than 200 Monterey County families in financial hardship by approving more than $170,000 in treatments for pets in crisis.

- Lifelong Advocate for Children Everett Sivils
- Growing up in Louisville, Ky., in the 1960s and ’70s, Everett Sivils faced poverty and prejudice each day with a sense of hope.
Salinas, CA, March 29, 2020 - Growing up in Louisville, Ky., in the 1960s and ’70s, Everett Sivils faced poverty and prejudice each day with a sense of hope.
“I was one of those kids that people never gave up on,” said Sivils, who has worked most of his adult life giving back to kids all over Monterey County.
Continuing in that theme, Sivils has become the latest board member for Partnership for Children, the Salinas-based nonprofit that supports families with children experiencing serious illness.
“I remember many times I couldn’t go to the doctor,” said Sivils, 55. “You would have to try to get a ride from someone in the neighborhood. People die when they don’t have accessibility to health care. The partnership provides some hope, versus no hope.”
Partnership for Children has provided transportation to medical care and family support services for children with life-threatening conditions since 2007. Its transportation and financial assistance programs increase access to compassionate care for children living in Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Benito counties.
Jennifer Ramirez founded Partnership for Children as its own independent nonprofit, and is responsible for the vision, strategy and delivery of its services. As executive director, her passion for improving children’s access to medical care was born out of her personal experiences with her daughter, who has complex medical conditions. Jennifer became director in 2011 when PFC was a program of Children’s Hospice and Palliative Care Coalition.
Sivils first met Jennifer while serving on the board of Community Action Partnership, helping low income individuals become self-sufficient. He invited her to speak to members of the Monterey Pacific Rotary Club, where he served as president.
“The work is so critical,” said Sivils, who has spent the past 22 years as a behavioral specialist for Monterey County Office of Education, working with special education students (elementary to high school).
“When I was a kid I was bussed to suburban schools, and I remember all the riots and the derogatory signs directed to black folks,” he said. “One day they sent us to the auditorium, and a teacher said: ‘We all don’t feel the same way.’ Something inside me bubbled. It felt really good. People didn’t give up on me, so who am to give up on anyone? I couldn’t, so I turned it into my life’s purpose.”
Sivils served in the U.S. Army, arriving at Fort Ord in 1988. He and his wife Cardis Cruz-Sivils settled on the Monterey Peninsula with their daughter Domineque, who sadly passed away in May of last year.

- Monterey Symphony Announces Concert #4, March 14-15, 2020, In Its 2019-2020
- The Monterey Symphony continues a season of orchestral “greatest hits” under the baton of Burning Man and Bay Area guest conductor for its March concerts.
Monterey, CA, March 27, 2020 — The Monterey Symphony continues a season of orchestral “greatest hits” under the baton of Burning Man and Bay Area guest conductor for its March concerts.
The Monterey Symphony’s March performances are Saturday, March 14 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, March 15 at 3 p.m. at Sunset Center in Carmel. A pre-concert lecture is held one hour prior to the performance each day.
Guest conductor Brad Hogarth joins us for the very first time from the Bay Area where he is the Assistant Professor of Conducting at San Francisco State University, the music director and conductor of both the Contra Costa Wind Symphony and the Art Haus Collective. In August 2017, Brad conducted the Art Haus Collective’s ballet production of Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring at the Burning Man in 2017. An estimated 10,000 people were in attendance and photos from the event were featured in USA Today, Business Insider, as well as the Smithsonian’s Renwick Gallery. Brad has also recently guest conducted a few of Grammy winning composer Mason Bates' Mercury Soul projects, the San Francisco Civic Symphony, the Diablo Symphony Orchestra, the ECHO Chamber Orchestra, the San Francisco Wind Ensemble, the Oakland Municipal Band, and regularly conducts various professions, educational, and community events all over the Bay Area.
Tchaikovsky’s 3rd Symphony, “Polish,” opens the program. This symphony is unique in that it is his only Symphony both in a major key, and containing five movements. Various instruments are showcased in this iconic work, including a lovely flute solo in the third movement.
The second half of the program contains Shostakovich’s 15th Symphony, written in 1971 and premiered in Moscow, which is full of references to other composer’s works. Shostakovich tips his hat to Rossini and Glinka, as well as featuring the “Fate” motif from Richard Wagner’s Ring Cycle.
“The wealth of this (Russian) tradition has made a giant contribution to the history of music,” said Max Bragado-Darman, Monterey Symphony Music Director.
Prior to each concert is a pop-up art exhibit featuring portraits by local photographer Randy Tunnell. Facing Faith is a study of 20 local faith leaders taken over a six month period. The subjects of Tunnell’s works come from various religious backgrounds, including Catholic, Jewish, Muslim, Greek Orthodox and more. Prints for this exhibit were sponsored by Pépe International. The exhibit will be available for viewing in the Sunset Center Lobby on Saturday night before the concert and during intermission and on Sunday before the concert.
