Monterey, CA, June 27, 2020 — If you’re an artist, a photographer, love to bake or preserve food, make your own wine or beer, sew your own clothes, enjoy woodworking or raise livestock and always wanted to be part of a county fair, then the Monterey County Fair is inviting you to enter your products or projects for judging and display at this year’s Fair, Sept. 3-7, 2020.
The Fair’s exhibit program is an excellent way for you to show off your talents, earn bragging rights and, above all, have fun. A 2020 Entry Guide Book, which has all the information you need to enter, such as due dates, deadlines, rules and regulations, local rules and entry forms, is available now at https://montereycountyfair.com/pdf/2020/2020-Entry-Guidebook.pdf. Entry guidebook is available online only due Covid19.
It is the exhibitor’s responsibility to read all rules and department-specific rules to be sure you are adhering to the department specifications and deadlines. Enter all exhibits online at: www.montereycountyfair.com
Exhibitors should complete the online entry form before the due date. Most entry due dates are August 7, 2020. All local and state rules apply to all divisions and classes in the guidebook.
All of the divisions and classes will be judged under the American system and/or the Danish system. The American judging process ranks exhibits against one another and awards one first place, one second, etc. The Danish judging process compares each exhibit on its own merits against the scorecard or recognized standard and awards as many first places, etc. as merited.
All entries must be submitted to the Fair online. If you need assistance with your entry, please make an appointment to meet with the entry office in person at 831- 372-5865.
The Monterey County Fair will run from Thursday, Sept. 3 to Monday, Sept. 7, 2020, at the Monterey County Fair & Event Center, 2004 Fairground Road, in Monterey. The theme of the 2020 fair is “Fiesta” and celebrates the city of Monterey’s 250th birthday.

Endless hours were spent pouring over those pages.
A family venture to the Christmas Tree lot and the pine smell of a new and fresh tree in the home.
Old tissue wrapped ornaments full of memories came out stored boxes and presents started appearing under the tree, (how many for you?), good and happy moods, excitement, hot chocolate, bright lights and yearnings, ohhh for so many anticipated and hopeful yearnings for toys!
Oh but then when were “bad” parents would remind us, “Santa is watching.”
It seemed like Christmas would never come either, time went so slow in our youth. At least it seemed like it.
Now looking back, where did all that time go?
My mom had a surprise for me when I went to visit her awhile back.
There was a small picture pile on the table and a twinkle in her eye.
Seemed as if she had found some pictures that we had been talking about earlier in the year that were taken when I was a young lad.
We were a real frugal family.
One income, 6 kids and foster children too, were always in our home.
On a very lucky day, my mom purchased a Santa Suit for me that I had had a fit over in the store.
I tried to convince her that I would be a great Santa if she got it for me.
She bought me the suit, and it was the true highlight of my holiday.
We (mom and I) kept it a secret and closer to Christmas I would “don the red suit” and be available for pictures.
Yes, even the neighborhood parents asked that I visit their homes for pictures with Santa after my socializing mom shared that I owned a Santa Suit.
Neighbors knew each other well then, and the children all fully believed.
I had a lot of fun with that Santa Suit.
With all the memories that have been created during our childhood, and here we are adults already, I would be so pleased to host your personal Christmas or holiday pictures of “Then, and Now.”
Mine I am sharing with you here, is with my sister Shawntell and she was about 7 years old.
I still remember sitting with her for that picture.
This was my first professional posing and she had no idea it was me.
She even called me “Santa.”

- On behalf of Venezuela, I would like to formally express my dismay at the arrest by the authorities of the Republic of Cabo Verde (“Cabo Verde”) of Mr Alex Saab, Special Envoy of the Government of Venezuela (the “Special Envoy”), while in transit for a mission to be performed in a third country.
Venezuela is also very concerned about the fact that the arrest was made on 12 June 2020 on the basis of an INTERPOL Red Notice issued at the request of the United States of America on 13 June 2020 - the day after the Special Envoy was detained.
This situation constitutes a serious and unacceptable breach of the most fundamental rules of international law – those of sovereignty and non-interference with the internal affairs of another country.
Venezuela therefore respectfully asks that the honorable judicial authorities of Cabo Verde promptly put an end to this unlawful situation.
I am currently in Cabo Verde along with the Special Legal Counsel and his team, which have been appointed by Venezuela. In addition to providing consular support to the Special Envoy, we shall be assisting the local legal team to address the significant international law aspects of this unlawfuldetention.

As if the structural factors listed above were not enough, Shiller argues that amplification mechanisms intensified the effects. First, there was a change in investor attitudes toward stocks. By the late 1990s stocks were considered a long-term investment that could not go wrong. Jeremy Siegel first published Stocks for the Long Run in 1994. Subsequent editions have appeared in 1998, 2002 and 2007. Stocks indeed performed well from 1995 until 2000, when the S&P 500 peaked around 1550. The S&P 500 then went on a 10-year stretch of underperformance. In fact, the S&P 500 was trading below its 2000 level in early 2011. This means 11 years of negative returns for buy-and-hold investors that bought in 2000.

Second, as inferred above, Shiller asserts that public attention to the stock market hit new levels in the 1990s. This heightened awareness made more money available for stocks. The media fed this infatuation with increased coverage. Dinner party conversations invariably turned to the stock market. Stock tips and advice were also readily shared among acquaintances.

Third, the consistent rise in stock prices provided a feedback loop that kept public attention on stocks. As the media reported the rise in the stock market, new money found its way into the stock market and pushed prices even higher. Higher prices led to more news and more news led to more investment money. A feedback loop evolved where price increases were feeding more price increases. Shiller calls these mechanisms naturally occurring Ponzi schemes because they feed on the perception of prior success.

Sensational stories with sound bites are more likely to attract attention than drab analysis with numbers and facts. The media always found the perfect excuse or news event to justify the move - after the fact. It is kind of like a solution in search of a problem.

Shiller notes that news of price changes is influential on investor behavior. In his survey after the crash on October 19th, 1987, Shiller listed all the recent news events that seemed relevant and asked respondents to rate the stories. News of the October 14th price decline was also included in this list. At the time, this was the single largest one-day point decline in the Dow Industrials. Stock market advances in the late 1800s, 1920s and 1960s were also facilitated by new era thinking. At the 1901 peak, new era thinking centered around railroads, big industrial trusts and the age of optimism. The roaring 20s were marked by the electrical age for big cities and the widening use of autos. The 1960s were punctuated by a baby boom, the proliferation of television and low inflation. And finally, the 1990s saw the Internet boom, low inflation, the new economy and the alleged end of the business cycle.

Shiller asserts that there is a human tendency towards “overconfidence in one's beliefs,” and that people often rely on intuition when making investment decisions. The decision process is not based on carefully considered facts backed by numbers and evidence. Instead, investors make investment decisions based on the opinion of others, stemming from the need to conform. Investors make decisions based on “good stories” or stories that seem logical. Because people get their information from the same sources, there is little or no evidence of independent behavior. Instead, individuals getting the same information react the same way to produce a herd mentality.

Shiller identified several credible factors that influenced investment decisions during the bubble years. Many of these factors exist today and his analysis provides food for thought when considering behavioral finance. Not all factors or influences are listed here. Shiller offers more factors and detailed evidence in the book. After examining efficient markets, random walks, bubbles and investor attitudes, Shiller also offers several remedies to contain “speculative volatility in a free society”.

Behavioral finance can help us understand what is happening, but understanding may not help with making money in the stock market. While the first edition coincided with the stock market peak in 2000, the stock market rose another 30% after the second edition was published in February 2005. There is an argument to be made for historical valuations, but markets can remain irrational a lot longer than traders can remain solvent. In other words, one would have left a lot of money on the table by selling in early 2005 or one would have gone broke shorting stocks in early 2005. To his credit, Shiller does provide evidence of past mispricing in the stock market. It can and does happen.

Furthermore, who is to say how much a stock is actually worth? The value of any asset is only what someone is willing to pay for it. Valuations are set every day as stocks change hands on Wall Street. Just as prices trend, valuations also trend from overvaluation to undervaluation. Sometimes these trends get extreme on both sides. Stocks were severely overvalued in early 2000 and severely undervalued in March 2009. It would appear that some sort of timing mechanism is needed to avoid the big declines and participate in the big advances. Hmm … sounds like technical analysis!

Concours at Pasadera will provide a complete celebration, with Champagne and delectable hors d’oeuvres, along with cars competing in class awards from Tiffany & Co., and the backdrop of a luxurious private country club and Jack Nicklaus-designed Signature golf course. As one guest said about last year’s event: “Fine cars, excellent cuisine in an atmosphere of casual elegance.” While that may sound difficult to eclipse, members of The Club at Pasadera have every intention of doing just that at the second annual event on Friday, Aug. 7, from 2-6 p.m.
In recognition of exhibitors who have presented outstanding vehicles in prior years, both the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance and The Concours at Pasadera will encore previous award-winning automobiles, along with awarding new Class Winners, during their August 2020 events.
The concours will showcase a juried collection of modern, classic, competition, commercial and vintage automobiles, along with motorcycles gathered from club members and enthusiasts. Also featured will be an Alumni Arena, presenting 25 chosen exhibitors from five classes. Guests will experience a tribute to the famed “Ford vs. Ferrari” competitions held at Le Mans between 1966-69. Competition vehicles from both marques will be on display. In all, the exhibition encompasses more than 80 cars and motorcycles from North America, Europe and Asia.
Silicon Valley supercar manufacturer, Drako Motors, will exhibit it's 1200 hp, four passenger luxury electric hypercar, Drako GTE. With a fully electric quad motor architecture, Drako GTE generates 8,800 Nm of combined wheel torque for unrelenting acceleration up to a top speed of 206 mph. Drako GTE will be one out of three Halo Cars to be featured at the show.
The first-ever Hot Wheels Concours will be part of the Pasadera event, inviting both younger and older exhibitors to present their collections for awards. Guests also will enjoy an exceptional culinary experience, with the event benefiting countywide charitable causes.
‘Ford vs Ferrari’
While the focus will be centered on Friday’s festivities, Pasadera will host a pre-Concours party for exhibitors and sponsors on Thursday, Aug. 6, from 5-8 pm, highlighted by a private screening of scenes from the film Ford vs. Ferrari starring Christian Bale and Matt Damon.
The film follows a determined team of American engineers and designers, led by automotive visionary, Carroll Shelby (Damon), and his British driver, Ken Miles (Bale), who build a new racing car intended to defeat the perennially dominant Ferrari racing team at the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans in France.

The famous toy from Mattel has become hugely collectible, with fans unearthing pieces that could belong in an investment portfolio. For the 2020 event, the Hot Wheels Concours will present scale-model cars (1967-2020) owned by exhibitors from around the world. Referrals come from Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital and the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, families, local businesses and local and state correctional programs. Its current goal is to acquire a new facility, working with Pepperdine University to obtain a location in Pacific Grove.
CASA trains and supports community volunteers who advocate for abused or neglected children placed in foster care, upholding the children’s rights while pursuing a safe and permanent home.

“We did everything we could with the resources we had to Put Tarasha’s case in front of the media until we got put out, the case was headed back to the national press”. Henderson said.
(Atlanta, Ga) for ten years now, Selma teenager Tarasha Benjamin has been missing and there is no sign the case is even been investigated. But, for investigative journalist Lawyer Henderson who was apart of the case between 2011-2018, it appears that case will never be solved.
Benjamin went missing on June 26, 2010 headed to the local flea market with her neighborhood friend Telisha Gihvan. The grey Mazda tribute truck she left in was later abandon and found on the Cecil Jackson bypass which leads to the Flea Market and Benjamin was no where to be found.
The family call the Selma Pd and there where Assistance from the National center for missing exploited children who did several searches for the missing teen which came up empty.
Henderson said he got in the case hoping to do a documentary and to assist in the investigation where he met with family members and police. “I really thought I could help and assist, I really thought that, and when you believe in something, you try your best to succeed, and that’s what I was accomplishing in Tarasha’s case”. Henderson said.

Henderson goes on to say that the recent killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Amaud Arbery cases would have given some light to Tarasha’s case because this is the time everybody see the police corruption that’s going on around the country.
“Facing the 10 years she been missing (Tarasha), with protest here in Atlanta, I could educate hundreds of thousands of people about her case in a matter of seconds, it was the perfect time. But, when you have family members who throw there two cents in, and feed off negativity, and bring confusion into the mix, and then the whole thing shuts down, the only one who suffers as results of that, is the victim, Tarasha”.
Henderson said the latest update he got from the case was in 2019, where they took the lead detective off the case and now no one is investigating it now.

Watsonville, CA, June 16, 2020 — Recent changes to the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) have made it more useful than ever, according to the non-profit El Pajaro Community Development Corporation, which is encouraging Latino businesses to apply for funds before the end of the month.
Small businesses, the self-employed, independent contractors, and sole proprietors are all eligible for forgivable loans through this Small Business Association (SBA) program. The deadline to apply is June 30, 2020, and El Pajaro CDC can help Latino businesses navigate the application system.
“Congress created the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) to provide a lifeline for small businesses during this public health and economic crisis in order to keep their workers on the payroll. Small businesses, the self-employed, independent contractors, and sole proprietors are all eligible for forgivable federal loans. I encourage small business owners on the Central Coast to take advantage of this program and apply for PPP before the June 30 deadline,” said Congressman Panetta.
If any local Latino business owner needs assistance, or a list of lenders, there are resources available to help them apply, including local Small Business Development Centers and El Pajaro CDC.
“We wanted to make sure that people don’t miss this opportunity of getting these PPP funds,” said El Pajaro CDC Executive Director Carmen Herrera Mansir. “People who have not applied may not have enough information or may believe that this program is not for them. After all the updates to the PPP, there is a lot more flexibility. For example, we have been doing a lot of successful applications for home childcare providers and other self-employed individuals.”
The Paycheck Protection Program, which resumed April 27, 2020, is an SBA loan designed to provide a direct incentive for small businesses to keep their workers on the payroll. SBA will forgive loans if all employees are kept on the payroll for eight weeks and the money is used for payroll, rent, mortgage interest, or utilities.
