- Norfolk writer’s food for thought sequel
- No sooner has Norfolk food safety auditor Kevin Shortland released his debut novel than he is back with the highly-anticipated sequel.
Despite winning praise for his writing during his 1970 and 80s schooldays, the father-of-three waited until he was approaching 60 years old before finally completing and publishing the five-star-rated Kevin Wilks and the Power Stone.
The fantasy adventure novel was greeted with a string of glowing reviews.
Less than a year on, Kevin has just released the second part of his planned six-book series, Kevin Wilks and the Mirror of Souls.
The 59-year-old said: “This is the book where Kevin Wilks comes of age.
“Thrown into the world of magic and mystery, he now must start believing things he had only read about in books.
“This is hard for Kevin as he only believes in things that are told or shown to him with further evidence as proof.”
Kevin, who gained accolades in catering and for food industry training, has been creating stories and storyboards since his school days.
And the practice over the decades has paid dividends as his first two books showcase his masterful ability for characterisation, exciting plots and perfect pacing.
Kevin, whose favourite authors include J.K. Rowling and John Grisham, said: “I have always jotted down simple stories right from my secondary school days but never thought about getting anything published.
“Some teachers read them and gave them glowing reports, but I never thought of asking my parents to help get any of them printed.
“Some of the events in the books also go back to my schooldays and the friendship with some of the characters that feature.”
His debut novel followed Kevin Wilks after being encouraged by his older brother to embark on a magical quest set by the greatest wizard of all, Merlin.
And the second book is a further slice of gripping fantastical adventure as Kevin yet again accepts Merlin’s challenge.
During chapters packed with twists and turns, the protagonist encounters many magicians and legends who were thought to have been confined to the history books.
Critics have described Kevin Wilks and the Mirror of Souls as ‘excellent’, ‘superb’ and ‘cannot wait until the third book’.
Kevin is currently working on the next part of his six-book series.
For more details, visit Amazon and search for Kevin N Shortland, where the paperback and Kindle formats of Kevin Wilks and the Mirror of Souls are both available.

- Nye & Company's The Collectors Passion Auction, Online Jan. 24-25, Features Fine and Decorative Arts
- Bloomfield, NJ, USA, January 11, 2024 -- Nye & Company Auctioneers’ two-day, online-only Collectors’ Passion auction slated for Wednesday and Thursday, January 24th-25th, will feature folk art from the estate of Marjorie and Robert L. Hirschhorn; a curated selection of early American, English and Continental furniture; a fabulous assortment of silver; and a broad selection of fine art and maps.
The auction, beginning at 10 am Eastern time both days, will include property from several Tri-State area collections, including a selection of property from the Stanley Weiss collection. Real time Internet bidding and absentee bidding is available on multiple platforms, including Nye & Company’s redesigned website. Telephone bidding will also be available, on a limited basis.
January is traditionally a month when Americana crosses the podium and this year is no exception. The collection of highly-inlaid parquetry furniture, canes and walking sticks from the estates of Marjorie and Robert L. Hirschhorn anchors the artwork made on this side of the Atlantic, including Johnny Cash’s personal hand-carved owl-and rattlesnake-carved cane.
There are also commemorative, G.A.R., Civil War, allegorical canes and walking sticks, some with figural handles and highly carved shafts. There are examples with busts of dogs, humans, animals and even Abraham Lincoln. The Hirschhorns accumulated a number of elaborately-inlaid pieces of furniture and clocks, including a Roxbury-style tall case clock bought in 1993.
The rare two-part clock on stand was made by Clayton Williams of Mt. Airy, North Carolina, circa 1959, and was made with 7,260 pieces of wood from 25 different kinds of wood from across the globe. The 16-Sided, Elaborately-Inlaid Center Table is one of several pieces in the collection depicted in Richard Muhlberger’s American Folk Marquetry: Masterpieces in Wood.
Items from the Stanley Weiss collection include a classical giltwood overmantel mirror, a Queen Anne mahogany drop-leaf dining table and a Federal satinwood tambour secretary. Items from a Connecticut collector include a Chippendale birchwood blockfront kneehole desk, an American School double portrait of children, and a lovely Ichabod Potter mahogany drop-leaf dining table.
A Pennsylvania and Connecticut collector is selling a Chippendale walnut chest-on-chest with the idiosyncratic tall scroll-board of Lancaster County and a nice tall case clock. The aesthetic counterpoint to the previously-mentioned chest-on-chest is the ethereal Queen Anne carved walnut dressing table, attributed to Henry Clifton of Philadelphia, and made circa 1750-1760.
The overhanging top sits above an arrangement of drawers, on cabriole legs and delicately carved scroll feet (commonly called Spanish or brush feet). That piece comes from a small but choice Westchester, New York collection. Also included is a superb Federal serpentine front chest of drawers, illustrated in American Antiques from Israel Sack Collection, Vol. III.
Another piece with attenuated proportions is the Federal inlaid New Jersey tall clock, Isaac Brokaw, Bridgetown, circa 1800. Several nautical paintings from the Pennsylvania and Connecticut collection include a fine China Trade Hong painting, Fonggua School of Macao; a ship portrait of the “Kalos,” and a bucolic painting of a boat on a lake by Charles Harry Eaton.
The nautical theme continues with the oil on canvas by the American artist, Frank Shapleigh (1842-1906) who deftly illustrates a ship wreck off Anastasia Island and the Spanish ruin at St. Augustine, Florida. Of the large-format pictures are two Italian Old Master Paintings, from an Ohio family, depicting Abraham and the Three Angels and Expulsion of Hagar & Ishmael.
Another Pennsylvania and U.K. family is selling a full-length portrait of Queen Victoria by Charles Cohill, after Thomas Sully. The portrait is mentioned in Carrie Rebora Barratt’s book, Queen Victoria and Thomas Sully.
“All that glitters is not gold,” is illustrated by the offering of good pieces of sterling silver, such as the James Robinson, William Garrett Forbes and Gorham tea services. From English makers, there are salvers, casters, candlesticks and more. More pieces by Whiting, Tiffany, Jensen and others round out this area.
Fans of New Jersey’s extant tavern signs can acquire a rare double sided Wheat Sheaf Inn sign. Those going further afield will be interested in the large group of cartography. There’s Petrus Planicus’ Engraved World Map; a Willem Blaeu, Map of The Americas; Hondius’ Map of Virginia and the Carolinas; a Willem Blaeu Map of Bermuda; and other maps of China, Scotland, France and England.
Other collecting areas are represented by an assortment of lighting, rugs, porcelain and glass.
Internet bidding will be available on LiveAuctioneers.com, Invaluable.com, Bidsquare.com, Bidspirit.com, the redesigned Nye & Company site (www.nyeandcompany.com) and application.
An online preview is being held now thru January 24-25t, so people can bid in absentia and online on the above platforms. Anyone looking for additional images, condition reports or info about an object can visit the Nye & Company website or email to info@nyeandcompany.com.
Nye and Company is proud to unveil its newly redesigned website (www.nyeandcompany.com) and smartphone application for 2024. The site is more fully illustrated and features a modern, boldly illustrated appearance. The increased functionality provides help for the auction veteran or the first-time consignor and executor with built-out FAQ, highlights and brochure sections.
Bidders will find the mobile app particularly helpful to participate whilst on the move. The online payment system is easier to navigate and will be released later in the first-quarter of 2024.
For more information about Nye & Company Auctioneers and the Collectors Passion online-only auction on Wednesday and Thursday, January 24th-25th, visit www.nyeandcompany.com. The full color catalog will be available shortly at www.nyeandcompany.com and the above websites.

- ALL FOR HOLISTIC LEARNING
- Author: Suseela Santhosh, Director Vishwa Vidyapeeth Group of Schools, Bengaluru.
Children not only require academic lessons but also a system that helps them understand emotions, relationships, and mental duress and develop resilience and team spirit Holistic learning seeks to manage the emotional, social, ethical, and academic needs of students in a coherent learning format. A positive atmosphere in school, coupled with academic and non-academic support to students should be given importance. Students should be taught to contemplate their actions, how they impact their community globally and locally, and how to learn from the community around them.
Holistic learning is a movement that gained currency in the 1980s to counter the existing learning structure that was considered mechanistic.
Methods of holistic learning
The goal of holistic learning is to develop a child’s physical, emotional, moral, psychological, and spiritual attributes.Lessons are provided in a safe, supportive environment that allows students to recognise their strengths. While holistic learning is guided by one philosophy, teachers can employ several methods and strategies to create a holistic learning culture.
Methods such as Experiential Learning where hands-on educational experiences are provided to students, or SelfGuided learning where teachers allow students to learn at their own pace and whatever way the child is comfortable with, enable students to grow, not just academically, but also prepare them to face challenges in the outside world. Schools serve as a focal point for community participation, social development, and academic activities.
Teacher-student relationship
When teacher forms strong bonds with students, their performance and engagement in class are positive. Students have a higher chance of success when they feel safe in a learning environment. Teachers should foster strong relationships with students by responding to their strengths and needs; and by acting in a culturally sensitive manner. Students should be allowed to help develop classroom rules and take on leadership roles. This encourages trust and communication among students and increases their motivation to do well.
Foster self-confidence
Students must feel that they belong and have the potential to achieve. Teachers can help build self confidence by providing different opportunities for students to learn and communicate what they understand. Teachers should be able to recognise students’ unique strengths and treat all students equally. Student motivation can nbe enhanced by making sure that the lessons are realistic and relevant to students’ lives.
Incorporating emotional reflection To encourage emotional understanding in daily routine, teachers should provide a certain time for students to reflect, contemplate, or meditate. Effective listening and observational skills might be the subject of lessons to promote empathy.
Benefits of holistic learning
Improved academic achievement: Holistic education can improve the academics of students regardless of background by catering to each student’s learning style and providing a supportive educational environment. The brain capacity of a student is increased when they feel physically and emotionally safe and have a good connection with the teacher.
Mental and emotional well-being: In a safe and supportive environment where social and emotional learning is emphasised along with academics, students have a chance of imbibing qualities of self-awareness, confidence, and a sense of responsibility.
Problem-solving abilities: Students who are assigned with solving real-world problems that exist around them develop strong critical-thinking skills. These hands-on experiences give students the required skills that they need in their careers such as, how to gather information, analyze, communicate effectively, and how to collaborate and work with others.
Children not only require academic lessons but also a system that helps them understand emotions, relationships, mental duress, and develop resilience and team spirit. Holistic learning boosts the morale of a student and makes them realise their hidden potential which ultimately results in becoming a productive person.

- Bruneau & Co. will Hold An Online-Only Winter Fine & Decorative Art Auction on Monday, January 22nd
- Cranston, RI, USA, January 4, 2024 -- Bruneau & Co. Auctioneers will greet the New Year with a 438-lot Winter Fine & Decorative Art online-only auction featuring fine items from prominent area estates and collections. The event will be held on Monday, January 22nd, starting at 10 am Eastern time. Previews will be held by appointment only, at the Bruneau & Co. gallery in Cranston, R.I.
Expected top lots include a landscape painting by Bruce Crane (Conn./N.Y., 1857-1937); a rare circa 1880 Bark John & Winthrop carved whale’s tooth; a circa 1830 Chinese oil on canvas painting of the 13 Hongs of Canton; an early 20th century Pairpoint Puffy Papillion table lamp; a 1977 Philippines 5,000-Peso gold proof coin; and a Tavannes Hermes silver golfing belt watch.
“We have an interesting array of items in this auction, from a fresh gold and silver coin collection to a group of ladies’ 1940s platform heels, to 18th century samplers and 1960s modern mannequins,” said Kevin Bruneau, president of Bruneau & Co. Auctioneers and an auctioneer. He called the Bruce Crane painting “a fresh find” and “the perfect study, a misty fall morning.”
The Crane painting, an oil on canvas depicting an open field with a small stream surrounded by a forest covered in fog, is expected to bring $2,000-$3,000. “It will be interesting to see the result on this fine impressionist work, in this ever-changing art market,” Mr. Bruneau said. Crane studied at the Art Students League, and was influenced by the French Barbizon School in France.
The stout whale’s tooth was carved on the John & Winthrop, a whaling ship captained by William T. Shorey, the only black ship’s captain of the time. It’s carved with an elaborate landscape depicting ships in a harbor with a bustling city (likely San Francisco) with hills and mountains. It’s marked “Bark John & Winthrop 1876 1880”. The estimate is $2,000-$4,000.
The circa 1830 Chinese Export oil on canvas painting depicts the 13 Hongs of Canton, the site in which the legal trade with the West and China was conducted from 1757 to 1842. The work depicts numerous trade ships in the harbor of the factories where the Spanish, American, English and Netherlands flags flew. The unsigned painting should command $3,000-$5,000.
The early 20th century Pairpoint Puffy Papillion table lamp depicts yellow butterflies and red roses in the Papillion pattern over a two-light lamp with two pulls over a shapely column with a botanical base. The beautiful brass and glass lamp is marked “Pairpoint Mfg. Co.” on the bottom and came out of a prominent Massachusetts collection. The estimate is $800-$1,200.
The first 29 lots in the auction are all gold proof coins, mostly individual coins but a few in groups. “Our consignor, who brought us in for what I thought was just going to be an Asian art collection, sent us away with the entire contents of the family safe,” Bruneau said. They should be very happy with the outcome of the auction; timing is everything with gold and silver coins.”
Chief among the gold coins is lot #1 – a 1977 Philippines 5,000-Peso gold proof coin that’s expected to reach $3,000-$4,000. The U.S. Franklin Mint New Society V Anniversary coin, contains 2.21 ounces troy of .900/1000 fine gold. The coin is in uncirculated condition and is nicely presented in the original plastic sleeve with blue folder case and accompanying papers.
The 20th century Swiss-made Tavannes Hermes silver golfing belt watch boasts a white squared face with black Arabic numeral numbering in a sterling silver case set into a belt buckle attached to a deep brown leather belt. The beautiful ladies’ watch is marked "Tavannes Hermes" to the face and "Sterling Silver" to the interior. It should realize $1,500-$2,500.
A lovely blue wooden mandolin made in China in the 20th century by George Washburn features a mother of pearl inlaid headstock and finger board with vibrant blue finish. It’s marked "George Washburn Model M-ISDL/TBL Serial No. DC04050202" to the interior and "Washburn" to headstock. Pulled from an Amherst, Mass. estate, it should go for $150-$250.

Flynn in voting contest at Veteran Firemen’s Fair as the most popular Superintendent, Woonsocket, R.I., May 1897"; and some documents (est. $300-$500).

The global biofertilizers market is segmented by microorganism type (nitrogen-fixing microbes, phosphate solubilizing & mobilizing microbes, potassium solubilizing & mobilizing microbes, other microorganism types), crop type (cereals & grains, oilseeds & pulses, fruits & vegetables, other crop types), mode of application (fertigation, foliar application, seed treatment, other modes of application), and formulation (dry biofertilizers, liquid biofertilizers). The study also evaluates industry competitors and analyzes the regional and country-level markets.
Based on microorganism type, in 2022, the nitrogen-fixing microbes’ segment is expected to account for the largest share of the global biofertilizers market. The large market share of this segment is attributed to the hazards associated with the use of chemical fertilizers, the rising number of initiatives by government agencies along with increasing awareness about the need for sustainability in modern agriculture, the rising adoption of advanced farming with drip irrigation and sprinklers, and the growing health concerns. In addition, nitrogen-fixing microbes are a more economical, ecological, and profitable solution to provide nitrogen to plants contributing to their increased adoption.
Based on crop type, the oilseeds & pulses segment is projected to register the highest CAGR during the forecast period. The rapid growth of this segment is attributed to the rising demand for organic oilseeds & pulses, the increase in the area under organic oilseed & pulses cultivation, and the rising demand for plant-based foods.
Based on mode of application, in 2022, the seed treatment is expected to account for the largest share of the global biofertilizers market. The large market share of this segment is attributed to the several advantages of seed treatment in biofertilizers, such as increasing seed germination and decreased incidence of foot and root rot. It also helps to solubilize phosphorous in the soil and improve its availability. The increasing use of biofertilizers in seed treatment of cereals such as rice, wheat, sorghum, and maize and oilseeds such as groundnut, sunflower, and soybean are driving the biofertilizers market.
Based on formulation, the liquid biofertilizers segment is projected to register the highest CAGR during the forecast period. The rapid growth of this segment is driven by the benefits offered by liquid biofertilizers, such as high efficiency & absorbability, ease of use, cost-effectiveness, and uniform application.

- income tax
- income tax
It seems like there might be a typo in your question. If you're looking for information on "income tax description," I'll provide a general overview.
Income tax is a tax imposed by the government on an individual's or entity's income. The amount of tax owed is typically based on the income earned, and various rules and regulations govern how this tax is calculated and collected. Here are some key points related to income tax:
Taxable Income: Income subject to taxation includes wages, salaries, bonuses, rental income, business profits, and other sources of income.
Tax Rates: Different countries and regions have varying tax rates, often with progressive tax systems where higher income levels are taxed at higher rates.
Deductions and Credits: Taxpayers may be eligible for deductions or tax credits, reducing their taxable income or the amount of tax owed. Common deductions include those for education expenses, mortgage interest, and charitable contributions.
Filing Status: Taxpayers usually need to determine their filing status (single, married filing jointly, head of household, etc.), which can affect their tax liability.
Tax Forms: Individuals typically use tax forms, such as the W-2 (for employment income) or 1099 (for various types of income like self-employment or investment income), to report their earnings.

- Reducing service verification issues in the waste industry
- In the waste industry a big area where tech helps is service verification. Confirmation & recording of non-collections or issues is essential. This data is required for correct customer billing & customer disputes/conflict resolution. With manual verification, even if you are right, customers can still win due to lack of hard facts. Key wins you get with better solutions are reductions in customer disputes & admin staff costs. Lets break service verification into 3 categories:
1. Manual
2. RFID
3. Camera
More @ https://www.wiswm.com/trusted-service-verification/
Manual
This is a simple and cost-effective solution. Due to its nature, it is human-based where a person ticks the task completed or records an issue. Our experience is that this solution is very error prone and will continue to leave your operations exposed in areas of service disputes.
More @ https://www.wiswm.com/trusted-service-verification/
RFID
RFID is an industry standard. It provides a level of automation that moves it above manual verification but it has negatives. While expensive to roll out, once in place you have ongoing maintenance and replacement costs. Faulty or damaged tags require replacement scheduling and onsite visits. And you have to scan and assign new carts to a customer property.
More @ https://www.wiswm.com/rfid-verification/
Camera
This is the latest and best verification available to waste haulers. Nothing can beat a picture! Take the example of a customer calling in to say their container was not collected and emptied. In the instance where the collection was not completed due to non-presentation, then a picture will deal with this perfectly. Manual verification is easy to argue against and even RFID verification is open to dispute. But the most definitive evidence that you can present to a customer is a time-stamped picture of your truck outside their location showing what (or not) was available for collection. Plus, one camera on the truck providing all your verification requirements is a lot more cost-effective than having to tag every individual container on your route. Cameras are the future of verification as it is quite easy to implement, delivers accurate addresses and requires zero management to keep it up to date.
More @ https://www.wiswm.com/camera-verification/
There is no one size fits all solution as companies differ greatly from one to the next. Our advice is to contact companies like ours and review your specific set up. Many companies are surprised at how easy and affordable it is to upgrade their current systems. But without question, the more reliable your solutions are, the less problems you will have.

Download Free sample Report Here: https://www.meticulousresearch.com/download-sample-report/cp_id=5715
According to this latest publication from Meticulous Research®, the Asia-Pacific telehealth market is projected to reach $176.63 billion by 2030, at a CAGR of 24.2% during the forecast period. The growth of the Asia-Pacific telehealth market is mainly attributed to the shortage of healthcare professionals, favorable government policies and initiatives, the increasing geriatric population coupled with chronic diseases, increasing digitalization, and rising awareness about the benefits of telehealth. In addition, the development of telerobots and the use of artificial intelligence and virtual assistants are expected to offer better growth opportunities for market expansion. However, the limitations, such as technical difficulties, security breaches, regulatory barriers, and physical examinations of telehealth and patient privacy and confidentiality issues, are expected to restrain the growth of this market to some extent.
Key Players
The key players profiled in the Asia-Pacific telehealth market are Aerotel Medical Systems (1998) Ltd. (Israel), Cerner Corporation (U.S.), Medtronic plc (Ireland), Koninklijke Philips N.V. (Netherlands), AMD Global Telemedicine, Inc. (U.S.), Cisco Systems, Inc. (U.S.), Doctor On Demand, Inc. (U.S.), MDlive Inc. (U.S.), Siemens Healthineers AG (Germany), Teladoc Health, Inc. (U.S.), Zipnosis, Inc. (U.S.), F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd (Switzerland), Tunstall Group (U.K.), ClearArch, Inc. (U.S.), and Resideo Technologies Inc. (U.S.)
Asia-Pacific Telehealth Market: Future Outlook
The Asia-Pacific telehealth market is segmented based on Component [Services {Real-time (Synchronous), Store-and-forward (Asynchronous), Remote Patient Monitoring} Hardware {Medical Peripheral Devices (Blood Glucose Monitors, Blood Pressure Monitors, Weighing Scales, Pulse Oximeters, Peak Flow Meters, ECG Monitors, Other Medical Peripheral Devices), Monitors, Telemedicine Kiosks, Telemedicine Carts} Software {Web & Cloud-based Software, On-premise Software}, Application {Psychiatry, Radiology, Cardiology, Primary Care, Dermatology, Remote ICU, Other Applications}, End User {Healthcare Providers, Patients, Healthcare Payers, Other End Users}], and Country. The study also evaluates industry competitors and analyzes their market share at the country level.
Among all the components studied in the report, in 2023, the services segment is expected to account for the largest share of the Asia-Pacific telehealth market. The large market share of this segment is attributed to the high utilization of telehealth services, including teleconsultation and telemonitoring, due to the increase in the geriatric population, an increase in the prevalence of chronic diseases, and a rise in the adoption and awareness of telehealth solutions. Moreover, increased access to specialist care, reduced expenses & healthcare costs, improved health outcomes, increased healthcare efficiencies, and increased doctor & patient satisfaction drive the growth of this segment.
Speak to analyst: https://www.meticulousresearch.com/speak-to-analyst/cp_id=5715
Among all the applications studied in the report, in 2023, the psychiatry segment is expected to account for the largest share of the Asia-Pacific telehealth market. The acceptance of telepsychiatry is rising rapidly as an efficient and effective tool for improving access, quality, and efficiency in mental health treatment. The shortage of primary psychiatric care and the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic have led to greater adoption of telepsychiatry services. Psychiatrists use telemedicine to provide many of the same services they would provide in person, including psychiatric evaluations, individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, patient education, and medication management.
Among all the end users studied in the report, in 2023, the healthcare providers segment is expected to account for the largest share of the Asia-Pacific telehealth market. Factors contributing to the large market share of this segment are the rise in demand for convenient care along with the unavailability of medical professionals.
Among all the countries studied in the report, in 2023, China is expected to account for the largest share of the Asia-Pacific telehealth market. Factors such as the high adoption of new imaging technologies, improving healthcare infrastructure, and rising focus on healthcare digitalization contribute to the large market share of this segment. Compared to other Asian countries, China leads in digital healthcare. Over 90% of the country’s health professionals have adopted digital health tools, including EHRs and telehealth, and the Government of China plays a major role in it.
