North London musician hits right note with eating trauma book

Pop music sensation Elena Roxy Rose has lifted the lid on her life-long battle with eating in an emotionally-charged new book.
The 35-year-old from North London reached number 14 in the UK Dance charts with her debut single Message in a Bottle.
But the talented performer has harboured a devastating secret throughout her musical career – eating disorders.
Now Elena has opened up on the pain and trauma she has suffered since childhood during her to control her weight.
Be Beautiful is a heart-felt book charting the struggles which took the qualified nanny to the verge of suicide.
Elena, who is now a dedicated vegan, said: “I saw the musical Cats when I was seven and my dream from that day forward was to be a performer.
“At college, whilst learning to sing and dance, a teacher told me I was too fat for my dream career.
“A year later I nearly died in a horrific car crash and my over-riding thought was ‘oh my God, I would have died, fat’!
“In somewhat a state of trauma I stopped eating properly and dropped around three stones in weight.
“I would starve myself and then binge.
“I gradually regained the weight and eventually my obsession with food turned into a full-blown eating disorder which lasted for around eight years, cost me my marriage and eventually saw me suicidal.”
Elena’s first step towards recovery was a move to a residential treatment centre in Canada.
The talented saxophone player wrote her debut album during her therapy.
And on her return to the UK in 2015 released her debut album.
Elena also began writing Be Beautiful, which has been rewarded with five-start reviews on its release.
She added: “I felt that everything I had learnt from my journey with food was worth sharing, so alongside my song-writing, I started writing this book.
“I’m not skinny and no longer wish to be.
“I’m healthy and I’m happy in myself - I have even dropped around 40 pounds in weight primarily by giving up diets!
“Be Beautiful offers the reader a new way of looking at themselves, a new way through, a way that is gentle and sustainable.”
