"The Harrods Triceratops Skull" represents one of the most iconic dinosaurs to roam the Earth 68-66 million years ago. The Triceratops was among the last of the large dinosaurs to exist before the catastrophic Cretaceous–Tertiary mass extinction event of approximately 66 million years ago. It is recognized for its three horns and distinctive frill, the skull of an adult could reach up to one-third the length of its enormous body.
A herbivore, the Triceratops grazed on the plentiful low-lying plants of its lush habitat. Its menacing horns were largely for protection, as Triceratops lived contemporaneously with the Tyrannosaurus Rex and, as the largest herbivore, most likely made up the majority of its prey.
Dinosaurs have captured the collective imagination of young and old, becoming a symbol of fascination and curiosity. This can be seen in the constant depiction of dinosaurs in books, films, television programs, artwork, and other entertainment media. The Triceratops, with its distinctive features, stands as an iconic representation of this cultural phenomenon.
David Aaron has previously exhibited dinosaur specimens at international art fairs, including a Camptosaurus at Frieze Masters (2022) and a Juvenile Tyrannosaurus-rex at Frieze Masters (2023), known as ‘Chomper’.
“The Harrods Triceratops Skull' presents an amazing opportunity for museums, collectors, and visitors to see an extraordinarily well-preserved Triceratops Skull. We are excited about this collaboration with Harrods and look forward to welcoming visitors.” says Salomon Aaron, director of David Aaron.
Discovered in Montana, USA, “The Harrods Triceratops Skull” comes from the geologically important Hells Creek formation, just south of Fort Peck Lake. It is the first occasion that this specimen will be on public display and available for purchase on the private market.
