Cruel lessons in life from Scottish writer in new book

Added: (Tue Jan 23 2024)

Pressbox (Press Release) - Prolific author Alastair MacDonald Hart is hoping to spread a little misery this new year with the release of his latest anthology.
The Author, who is originally from Clydebank Glasgow, has already produced a considerable back catalogue that ranges from historical and political commentary to science fiction and short story collections.
And he has produced his eclectic and impressive body of work in a little over a decade.
But his latest eight-story collection, No More Happy Endings, is not for anyone looking for a post-Christmas pick-me-up.
Alastair explained: “As children we’re always raised to believe that stories have happy endings.
“But, as we grow older, we realize that the world is a cruel and vicious place.
“Life rarely works out as we want it to.
“There are obstacles, challenges, and global tragedies that shatter hope and ambition.
“We intoxicate ourselves on illusions of happiness and meaning.
“We delude ourselves by thinking that there is a reason or a plan behind it all - but there’s not.
“There’s only chaos, ill fortune, and a bleak end to this tormented ride we call life.
“It’s time to lift the veil and see the truth. It’s time to leave our childish naivete behind and accept the irrefutable evidence we see in every snippet of news, in every corner of the world - there are no more happy endings.”
Born just a few years after his hometown of Clydebank was bombed during the German blitz, Alastair grew up surrounded by the devastation of war.
On reaching the age of 60, and having relocated to London, the father-of-four released the first of his three books on modern history.
He went on to write a string of five-star-rated science fiction and fantasy novels, as well as publishing the occasional collection of thought-provoking short stories.
No More Happy Endings is the latest anthology which will not only captivate readers but likely resonate with them long after the covers have been closed.
Alastair, who is heavily influenced by the work of Jean Paul Sartre and Phillip K Dick, believes a childhood of food rationing and living around bombed out factories and streets has played a part in his thinking and his writing.
He added: “I was born seven years after the end of World War II, yet the effects were still being felt all around me.
“Rationing and bomb sites were still the norm as I grew up in a once great town that was still reeling from the effects of the most devastating war in history.”
