According to the U.S. Department of Education by the time girls graduate from high school, more than one in ten will have been physically forced to have sexual intercourse in or out of school. When young women get to college one in four will be victims of attempted or actual sexual assault, as will about 6% of undergraduate men.
Bergen County Adults and children interested in learning self protection now have access to a powerful self defense training system formerly only provided to law enforcement, military, and correctional personnel.
The system is COBRA Defense and it was formulated for civilians using defensive techniques and tactics that in the past were reserved only for law enforcement professionals and prison guards.
COBRA creator Chris Sutton was already a black belt in multiple martial arts when he began a law enforcement career where he was trained and served as a street cop, sheriff, and maximum security correctional officer.
Sutton says that experience helped him realize that the public needs to learn self defense in a more focused and faster process than in martial arts schools. “I love the martial arts but to get proficient enough to defend yourself could easily take years because so much more is taught in a martial arts program than just self defense. I designed COBRA for people who want to learn to self defense without having to learn martial arts. COBRA is for average people who are motivated to take charge of their personal safety.”
In 2003, he began to pilot COBRA in Clearwater, FL. Since then, thousands of men, women, and children have completed the program. The program has been so successful that it has started to expand in North America and in over 12 Countries worldwide. Michael Alban in
Rochelle Park, NJ has been training personally to learn the COBRA system and is now certified to teach to in New Jersey.
Residents of Rochelle Park and surrounding towns are invited to attend a special demonstration and free class January 31, 2019 at 7 pm at MVP Taekwondo Center 5 W. Passaic Street in Rochelle Park. Call 201-556-9799 or visit www.cobranorthjersey.com for more details.
