Pressbox (Press Release) -
A nuclear decommissioning expert from Somerset has just released an explosive new novel – after suffering a nightmare.
John Newman gained inspiration for his five-star rated supernatural horror story from a recurring dream.
The 59-year-old said: “Believe or not, the idea for The Pied Pipers Be Brave came in a dream - a dream that I went back to three times in one night.
“I thought, the following morning, I’ll write about that one day.”
The Pied Pipers Be Brave has been described by critics as ‘a must read’, ‘an excellent book’, and ‘… couldn’t put it down’.
One reviewer stated: “… full of suspense, drama and mystery – keeps you guessing right to the end.”
The Pied Pipers Be Brave follows the fortunes of two evacuated children during the Second World War after they become the targets for an evil spirit.
It is only when they seek help from a Great War veteran that they learn the origins of the witch as well as the soldier responsible for bringing it back from the battlefields.
John’s gripping thriller is not just perfectly paced and constantly unpredictable, but it demonstrates his ability for vivid imagery and captivating characterisation.
Part historical drama, part edge-of-the-seat chiller, and partly a study of human endeavour and religious faith, The Pied Pipers Be Brave has something for all readers.
John, whose favourite authors include Andy McNab and Jack Higgins, added: “The German army of the Great War spoke of an evil and powerful force that terrorized the battlefields of Belgium and France.
“Whispers of this phenomena with unmerciful fury on either side of the salient became known as the war witch.
“She fooled the heart of a British officer who brought her back from the battlefields to a beautiful and serene hamlet in the Southwest of England.
“Now bedevilled by the war witch - the hamlet is her quarry, and the children are her prey.
“Only one man can stop her, but it would be 20 years and the courage of two evacuee children who put their lives at risk to save others.
“With the help of a guardian angel and the power of a mysterious crucifix, their means of defiance lies within their deep faith in God.”
Following the successful publication of The Pied Pipers Be Brave, John has already completed the sequel, and is now working on a third book.
