Pressbox (Press Release) - What would the Romans have made of mobile phones?
Well a brilliant new novel not only takes ringtones to Rome, but also leaves scientists with an unenviable mission to bring two archaeologists back to the present time.
Chris Gleeson’s stunning book, 79AD, has already reached the top five of Amazon’s historical charts and been awarded five star reviews since its release.
The 60-year-old warehouse assistant from Merseyside merged his passions for astrophysics and archaeology to devise his incredible plot.
Chris said: “The idea for 79AD was a gradual process brought about through my love of archaeology and astrophysics.
“My book is about two archaeologists, Carl and Lana, who, whilst digging on a site in Rome, are transported back, 2,000 years to the time of the emperor, Titus by a strange freak of nature that theoretical scientists call a time fold.
“But, fortunately for Carl, at the time he and Lana were sent back, he was on his mobile phone to his brother, Sam, and thus their phones were linked through time via quantum physics.
“Scientists conclude that the only way to bring them back through a wormhole large enough would require the use of an atomic bomb but this brings the political world into conflict.”
Chris has been writing historical and science fiction short-stories for the past three decades.
The grandfather from Birkenhead, who also plays drums in a band, expanded to full-length novels during his 40’s.
While 79AD is a riveting time-travel adventure, it is also a ruthless romp through Rome at the height of the Empire.
Chris added: “Carl and Lana find themselves embroiled in a treasure hunt, murder, battles, intrigue and mystery in an ancient world, both brutal and cruel.”
There have already been suggestions for turning 79AD into a screenplay.
It has been described as ‘captivating’ and ‘beautifully written’ by Chris’s growing number of fans.
Reviewer A. Gunn stated: “I think I went through every emotion whilst reading it. I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish.”
