Pressbox (Press Release) -
A divided Britain isn’t all that hard to imagine these days.
Beyond the Checkpoint is a gripping thriller, set more than a century in the future, where the haves and have-nots stand poles apart.
The ruling elites of 22nd century Britain will do whatever they can to keep the uneducated workers in their place.
Sandy’s five-star novel is more than just a worrying premonition of a polarised nation, with a Romeo-and-Juliet love story at its heart.
She explained: “Beyond the Checkpoint is about a social revolution in Britain, one hundred and twenty years in the future.
“Society is divided into two groups – the Larchpeople, who run the country and the Birchpeople, who do all the work.
“Beyond the Checkpoint is about two people from opposing sides of the divide who are thrown together by circumstances.
“They fall in love and eventually lead the country into a revolution.”
The romance of Marcus and Maxine is a beautifully told by the retired child protection manager.
But the author fears the dystopian world she has created in Beyond the Checkpoint could become a reality.
She added: “The idea for Beyond the Checkpoint didn’t come from any outside force - I had been thinking about this story, in piecemeal form, for many years.
“I set the story in Britain as I envisage a world of Larchpeople and Birchpeople could easily become a reality if those who have vast wealth continue to refuse to share it.”
Beyond the Checkpoint has received five-star reviews since its recent release.
Reviewer Tammy Goodwin stated: “It has great characters and pacing with an interesting political commentary.”
Sandy is not ruling out writing a sequel to Beyond the Checkpoint.
