Pressbox (Press Release) -
Almaty, Kazakhstan and New York, USA: 30 January 2001: Orientation.com, one of the world's fastest growing networks of country and regional Internet portals, announced the addition of leading Kazakh telecommunications and Internet provider, TNS Plus, into its global network of partners, and the launch of its new in-depth English and Russian portal, Orientation Kazakhstan (http://kz.orientation.com). The new portal is a joint production of Orientation.com in New York and TNS Plus.
TNS Plus is one of Kazakhstan's largest telecommunications providers, offering digital voice and data services throughout Kazakhstan on their own wireless and satellite infrastructure.
By combining Orientation.com's leading edge technologies with TNS Plus' domestic market position, Orientation Kazakhstan offers the most advanced window on the wired world for the growing domestic user base, conservatively estimated at 70,000 in July 2000 by the International Telecommunications Union. However, by being a part of the Orientation Global Network, the portal can be marketed to the sizable Kazakh Diaspora and expatriate communities, and to non-Kazakhs looking for relevant information such as tourism or business resources.
"Orientation Kazakhstan will be the first community point on the World Wide Web to connect Kazakhs around the world," said Jay Tindall, Founder and CEO of Orientation.com. "This will enable us to offer revenue generating services that meet the real needs of this international community."
Orientation Kazakhstan will generate revenue from a number of sources. The online advertising market in Kazakhstan is small, but as a member of the Global Network, the portal will benefit from advertising sold for Western viewers, and to the greater Russian speaking market of which Kazakhstan is a part. Russian is the world's fifth most spoken language.
In the near future, Orientation.com expects to roll out customized Voice over IP (VoIP) services that will enable the international Kazakh community to keep in contact with their friends and family in Kazakhstan. This feature will be offered throughout the Orientation Global Network. "In the US, we can use each portal to market directly to a specific target community in the US, rather than generally marketing outbound international VOIP," explained Tindall.
Orientation.com, in association with TNS Plus, will also offer its turnkey portal solutions services in Kazakhstan. Orientation.com's XML based publishing technology is capable of delivering customized content to any device in any language. Potential customers include vertical companies looking to build customer focus points online and wireless operators looking to build effective content solutions as they move into WAP and 3G services.
TNS Plus is the 40th partner in as many countries across five continents to join the Orientation Global Network. Orientation Kazakhstan is the fourth Russian language portal offered by Orientation in addition to Russia, Belarus, and Turkmenistan. It is the second Central Asian portal, after Turkmenistan. Orientation expects to announce the launch of its third, Uzbekistan, in the coming weeks.
The Orientation Global Network is unique in that it brings together local companies in emerging Internet markets beyond North America & Western Europe. Half of these companies are leading ISPs in their respective markets but there are also Web development companies, leading newspapers and publishers, and Non Governmental Organizations, including companies established by the Sustainable Network Development Program, an initiative of the United Nations Development Program.
To date, Orientation.com and its partners have built a global network of individual country portals for 198 countries and territories, the largest single network of such Web sites in the world.
Orientation.com (http://www.orientation.com) is a worldwide interactive network delivering products, solutions, and services across multiple devices in multiple languages. Its goal is to connect emerging Internet markets by providing a global, multilingual platform, where people obtain authentic information, communicate, and access services.
Orientation.com has developed one of the largest networks of country and regional Internet portals and has been instrumental in developing Internet communities in countries beyond North America & Western Europe, providing services in a total of 17 languages to date. Orientation has partners in 40 countries.
