Cannes - Logica and One 2 One, the UK mobile communications network, have successfully completed the first phase of extensive business data extensions trials for the emerging GPRS network. Logica was responsible for the design, build and management of the multi million pound service platform that was tested.
The company worked with One 2 One to create a solution that enabled the operator to host and manage new mobile services. Using this technology One 2 One’s business customers will eventually be able to utilise a GPRS network to send data, graphics or photography via the mobile internet.
Jayne Reddyhoff, Logica’s UK Director of Telecoms, commented “We began work with One 2 One to enable mobile devices to use GPRS for business applications.
“The benefits of using these services included greater efficiency and mobility for a large number of business processes. We expect end users such as sales representatives, estate agents, engineers or field operators to gain most from fast two-way communications of data.
“These professions can save time and money by sending information to and from the office using mobile devices such as PDAs and laptops used in conjunction with a GPRS phone.”
Logica’s knowledge of mobile internet and GPRS technology was the foundation used to create a solution based on One 2 One’s specific business requirements.
David Henson, One 2 One’s Business Unit Director, said: “Logica responded within a short time-scale, building a solution that means our customers will be able to make use of GPRS technology in a way that alters how they do business.
“The customers that trialled the service used the technology for workflow management and to speed up business processes. For example, estate agents were using PDAs with digital cameras and GPRS phones to directly submit details of houses, including photographs, to their websites – without having to wait for agents to return to the office and upload the data from a PC.
“We wanted to bring these services to market with assured quality. To achieve this we chose to work with Logica because of its proven track record for building innovative solutions in this field.”
