LOGICA AND GENEVA ARE ‘ONE’ STEP CLOSER TO 3G

Pressbox (Press Release) -
Logica today announces it has implemented a new billing system, Geneva, for ONE in Austria, bringing the leading telecoms operator a step closer to GPRS and third generation mobile services.
The system has been delivered within a record timeframe of only three months.
Logica is prime contractor responsible for installing; configuring and integrating Geneva Technology’s Geneva billing system into ONE’s existing CRM and IT environment. It will work with GPRS services that demand a completely different billing structure to handle rating for content, cross-service discounting and also complex service packages
The flexible and future-proofed billing system from Geneva Technology supports ONE in becoming market leader in GPRS mobile services which go live in Austria in the first quarter of 2001.
Peter Pedersen, CIO of ONE, said: “There is no time for a long learning curve in third generation”.
“Competitive pressures demand that we need to work with partners who have proven success in GPRS. And because some of the 3G services are still not wholly defined we need partners who understand how to integrate a new generation billing solution like Geneva into our existing IT environment, so that we have a smooth transition as we introduce GPRS and then UMTS-based services.
“We chose Logica because we knew it could deliver against these requirements within the critical time frame we have set.”
The system is also specifically designed to be flexible enough to cope with any eventuality in the upcoming 3G services - particularly important for ONE, which has recently acquired a UMTS license.
Joachim Himmer, Divisional Director Telecoms at Logica, said: “Logica has delivered several GPRS mediation and billing solutions, including one of the worlds first installations, in the Czech Republic.
“Although we had committed to a very tight time scale, our delivery track record - including over 25 billing migrations in the past four years - gave us the confidence to believe that delivery against these high expectations was feasible.
“A rapid mobilisation team started the project within days following the go-ahead from ONE, allowing the project the flying start it needed to meet the challenging time frame.”
Logica has now won five joint projects with Geneva Technology since the partnership began last year.
