DING DONG MERRILY ON HIGH, SANTA WILL SOON BE RING-ING

Added: (Tue Nov 21 2000)

Pressbox (Press Release) - Imagine a child’s delight if they received a telephone call from Santa Claus this Christmas Eve to let them know the reindeer are ready, the sleigh is laden with goodies and he’ll soon be on his way.

With the help of www.Santa-Claus.com, Santa will be calling to have a 'personal' conversation with thousands of excited children before he leaves the North Pole. What’s more, for every call made, another child will benefit from a donation direct to ChildLine.

It couldn’t be easier for parents, relatives and friends with internet access to book a personalised call from Santa to a child anywhere in the world. Anyone can arrange a call by visiting the
Santa-Claus.com website, clicking the link for ‘Santa Calls’ and filling in a simple on-screen booking form that asks for the child’s name, a home or mobile telephone number and time to ring.

On Christmas Eve, Santa, accompanied by his chief Elf and Rudolph, will call and ask for each child by name. Santa - whose voice is that of actor Richard Carrington, formerly a vicar in BBC radio's 'Archers' - greets each child with a cheery, “Ho, ho, ho!” then thumbs through his Christmas present list and asks, “I hear you’ve been a good boy/girl this year, is that right?” Santa listens for a ‘yes’ before continuing the festive dialogue.

Six delightful interactive messages are tailored to children of different ages and every one is sure to make it a Christmas to remember. And, for adults who want to join the fun, there is a message for staff to send a tongue-in-cheek festive greeting to their boss asking for more time off!

The Santa Calls service is unique to Santa-Claus.com and is made possible by intelligent telephony from Cambridge-based NetCall Telecom. A call costs £5.00 of which 50 pence
per call is donated to ChildLine. The website is packed with festive fun, puzzles, a
seasonal screen saver and a Christmas gift store - with present ideas for everyone,
including the family pet!

And for anyone who has until now hesitated about shopping or submitting credit details online Santa-Claus.com has created a secure payment environment to ensure that credit card details and Christmas present wishes remain a secret known only by Santa.

Santa-Claus.com
Despite the rush for memorable ‘.com’ web addresses, the name Santa-Claus.com remained unclaimed until 1998 when Newmarket-based entrepreneur Stephen Bottomley realised its potential.

Two years on after gaining financial backing, advertising commitments and consumer tests, Santa-Claus.com is being officially launched. Judging by the 5 million page impressions on the test site in 1999, Santa-Claus.com looks set to be the first port of call for many online Christmas shoppers this year.

As well as being the place to book a call from Santa, Santa-Claus.com offers toys, gifts and games. To take some of the load off of Santa's sleigh this year, the company will be using fulfillment company Total Direct Ltd to arrange logistics and Barclays Secure Payment Services to provide shoppers with peace of mind when making online payments.
